:D I know this has probably been on here loads of times, but how much and how often of the tea or capsules should I be taking, and when should I start taking them?

bagpuss xx

Hi Bagpuss

Sorry Im unable to comment as I dont know but am very interested

im thinking back to the last pg and it was 3 times a day from week 36 but I was on mother and baby forum yesterday and some folks were taking them from 32 weeks which I wouldnt advise. Say they went into labour as a result, the baby would be very premature.

Holland and barrat sell the tea. I took it from my due date and went into labour 5 days later. Maybe a total coincidence.

Hi bagpuss iv never heard of them, what do they do? bring on labour??????

Hello Dionne,

They are supposed to help tone your uterus muscles, and so assist with labour and the contractions, but I have also read that some people have taken them to bring on labour,I think that's why opinions vary on when you should start to take them.......I take herbal remedies for various things, and if this can help out with the second stage of labour,I'm deffo going to give it a go!!

I started taking the capsules just before 36 weeks - Nope, no baby here! unless he slipped out when I wasn't looking!!

I think its probably a con, it may help prepare the uterus & aid contractions but when the babies ready to be born he/she'll come whether you've taken them or not. I was reading the other day about things to do to kick start a labour i.e have sex, eat a curry, nipple stimulation  but it said this will only help if your bodies ready to go into labour anyway, so who knows!

Mind you i'm willing to try anything right now!

is cod liver oil a NO NO? my mum took a big dose of cod liver oil mixed with fresh orange as soon as she felt contractions begin.... She said she took it went to bed for a lie down... got up a few hours later when contractions where feeling pianful and went into the hospital. She was in the delivery room no more than an hour... she said the nurse asked her to push (first push) and i was out seconds later... gas air air only! no stitches.... the MD told her off for drinking the cod liver oil as it aparently brings on labour and helps baby slide out (sounds good to me).... but this was 31 yrs ago.... what do you think? has anyone tried it?

I took rasberry leaf from 36 weeks and it did nothing and i had to get induced. Also "cod liver oil" Do you mean caster oil? I never heard of cod liver oil doing any thing.

we were told at the antenatal classes not to take it but in hindsight if they say dont then do!
I might give it a go near my due date.
Cod liver oil is rotten aswell. My mum used to make me take it when I was wee then plastered my face in nivea. Neither did me much good might I add.

so what is it then cod liver or castor???

as i will be getting it, iv never heard of them both dont no what there orignaly for wot kind of shop to get them from?
chemist baking isle in food shop? i realy am clueless? how much do they cost about r they in bottles or powder... and how much do u take????

i did hear thou it can make labour alot more painfull as body aint ready but is having contractions they say is more painfull when your induced aswell dont they?

Answer: I took castor oil when I was pregnant with my son. I went into 17 hours of hard false labor. The nurses at the hospitol told my that it was wrong to take it. It cause diarea among other things and that whatever I was going through I was putting my baby through the same thing. I'm not sure if they were trying to scare me . Good Luck

thats put me off!!!!!!

but if worse gets to worse and im going insane can any one answer my questions from the above post of mine

Hi Bagpuss,

My friend took rasperry leaf capsuals from 26 weeks! She was told that it strengthens the uterus ready for labour and helps make labour shorter and easier! She was also told that it reduces the amount of bleeding after the birth! Some other people told her that you can give birth upto 2 weeks early!

Anyway she was 14 days overdue! She was in labour for 1 hour and 20 mins from her waters being broken (no contractions before this but was 2cm dilated) and she only bled for 10 days after the birth! She said she wasn't 100% sure if it was this that worked or of it was pure luck but she said she would take it again!

She also tried caster oil on her due date but that just gave her labour type pains followed by a bad case of the runs! Never worked! Personally i wouldnt try it!!!

Hope this helps

That was a really good link about Castor Oil.

Thank you

:D Dionne, you should be able to get castor oil from a chemist,it's in a bottle, you used to take it for constipation,so a big dose would certainly give you the sh@@ts!!Not sure if I would relish that during labour  I got some once from the chemist for my dog who was blocked up,and the chemist asked me loads of questions, because apparently those suffering from anorexia and bulemia use it and abuse it.
You can get Cod liver oil from the chemist,or supermarket,in a bottle,or capsules......but I can't comment on how you would use them or if I would,so be careful if you try them!!!!

Just saw kelsbels message, thanks for that,it's nice to hear that your friend thought that they may have had some effect,I shall begin to take the capsules today, and hope and  it helps me too!!

Your welcome, Im in 2 minds whether i will be trying them yet lol!!!
