Posting this across two sections in the hopes that it's seen more.

I'm a bit worried about the potential length of this labour. First labour was 13 hours, start to finish. Second labour was 3.5 hours, start to finish.

Second labour was induced but as far as I understand it, your body does subsequently shorter labours regardless of how the labour was started, as it still has the muscle memory.

I'm worried that this will be an ambulance job, and how long to leave it before I try and go in. The mws at this hospital have a habit of not listening and putting mothers off going in until the last possible moment (most likely because they're horrendously understaffed), so I'm not really sure what to do.

I'll talk to my community mw at my appointment next week but would really appreciate your advice too.

Sorry no advice but im curious too... First labour my waters broke at 10pm and i gave birth at 2.30 am BUT I was fully dilated on arrival at the hospital i just took almost 2 hours to push! Im fairly terrified mine will be an ambulance job too.

Prior to 10pm i just felt uncomfortable and a bit fed up like you do at the end of pregnancy?

When my waters broke theu said to lie down for an hour and get back in touch but that made me think i had to wait at least an hour so i think i really pushed the limit of time being at home!!

I might just park up in the car park as soon as labour starts and wait there

Hahaha I've considered the parking up route too! If I was told to go home it would be half an hour home then half an hour back to hospital so no chance I'd be thinking that was a good idea! X

Not really - 18 hours with my first which ended in forceps (she was 8lbs 8) and second I was induced but from my first contractions to delivery I would say it was no more than 5 hours but they thought it was going to be quicker and why waters were broken about an hour before delivery at most. He was 10lbs 1 so a big one to get out and I don't fancy one of a similar size suddenly shooting out lol. I feel like if my waters go naturally I'm unlikely to have much time before he is coming out! X

It depends on how you go into labour and where baby is and how quickly you dilate.

First labour I was induced and was total there for 8hr - he came an hr after waters broke but at that point I was 5cm so just dilated quick. He had been engaged.

Second labour after a "failed" sweep I contracted mildly from Fri eve and went into hospital the following evening at 10pm 7cm. He was quite high up no water or show. I was in the pool for 4hr contracting and he didn't budge. Waters burst after the 4hr and fully dilated he came again within the hr after waters breaking. Total hours at hospital 7hr then out after 6hr BUT was in labour a full day prior to this.

The only thing you can do is just see how you feel in yourself at the time. I was in denial second time round because I went myself. First labour was technically shorter but alot more chaotic second was so much more chilled and paced.

Good luck you'll do amazing xxxx

If i was lucky to fall pregnant again im not sure what i would do. I was induced, nothing happened for 5 days then my waters went, contractio ns right away and she was here in 1 hour and 5 mins

I worry that, as I labour quickly, baby will come flying out and poor hubby will have to deal with sorting me out himself!

First labour 8 hours, second 2 hours, third 2 hours. They were fast and i did chose a homebirth

I'm not sure a home birth would be for me, and I'm consultant led so it would be out of the window for me anyway unfortunately :(

I think that's a fear we all have. D genuinely thought I'd birth I'm the bath because I started moaning and wouldn't move he's like right out now lol!

My fear this time was birthing in the car. I was glad I went at night and traffic was quiet. It was horrible me just holding to the door contracting and that stupid gary Barlow song was on and my mum was ripping the piss saying I was attempting to sing. But I got there and was actually also scared I'd be sent away which I wasn't right in the pool i went xxxx

If its any help... my mum has 3 children.
First took 11hrs.
Second took 5 hours.
Third (me) was 39 minutes.
I was born in the ambulance, at traffic lights :D

That does not help  I think an ambulance is going to be my safest bet!

It's not funny, I may have to! With the last labour being 3 hours, and the hospital half an hour away, in good traffic, it'll be pushing it very fine!

Kumber, at my booking in app last week the midwife said that as soon as I get the smallest twinge I've to get myself straight to the hospital. I'm lucky that I don't live far away but if I have DS I will need to get someone to take him for me and that will be longer. I am going to ask about an ambulance too x

How long was your previous labour Belfa?

I'm a bit concerned too. If this pregnancy is successful (God willing) I'll need to go in sharpish as last labour was quick.

4 hours from waters going to baby arriving. Although I was only in active labour at hospital for 80 mins or so.

Was a bit of a change from the 51h labour with number 1!!!

A friend from work gave birth to her first baby last week and it was born in the back of her sister's car en route to the hospital and delivered by her husband. Literally my worst nightmare. X

Ohh lordy, this is exactly what I'd hope to avoid as OH doesn't drive so we'd be relying on my mum!

You don't all think I'm mad then, for opting to ring an ambulance?
