Question about Nuchal and Dataing scan

Hi girls,

Was wondering im supposed to be having a dating scan as we're really unsure of how far gone I am...

However they were talking about a Nuchal scan, will I have this aswell?

I have my scan at 9 weeks, will I have my nuchal just after 12???

Never heard it called that, just one called a dating scan and the other a gender scan here

you may and you may not.
The nuchal scan is basically where they measure fluid around the neck which can detect if you are at high/low risk of downs syndrome. because its usually carried out at a womans 12 week scan then they just do it at the same time as the dating. Not all NHS hospitals carry this out for pregnant women as you are offered the blood screening at 16 weeks and the results of the nuchal and the blood results are combined to give you your risk assessment for downs syndrome.

So as said before you may get one or you may not, it depends if your NHS carers will just take your blood results or would prefer to combine both the nuchal and blood results.

I hope youmanage to get both hun, it would be lovely to see little petal twice and see how they have grown .

Mine only seem bothered about a 20 week scan. In fact my dr actually said 'we dont really do anything in the first half of the pregnancy'

They asked if i had considered a nuchal scan, i think if i pushed for one theyd let me.

I've already booked in a 12 week scan privately (£95) because i cant possibly wait til 20 weeks, and ive decided to upgrade it to combine the nuchal scan (£200) because its worth peace of mind.

I find in this life you cant rely on anyone but yourself so if you want something, find a way!!
