Since my BFP - ive been kinda nervous about this, as DH lost an older sister to this, and im aware there is some evidence that there can be a genetic link.

However, fear has now Shot UP, as we've been told we're team pink - and DH's sister was the only girl in his extended family for a few generations.

Have looked at some info regarding what to do/not to do e.g. use of dummies etc., and we've bought a sound/movement moniter, however a lot of its quite conflicting - i read one article about how swaddling may contribute, and another which said it decreases the risk.

I know that there is no definitive explanation of what exactly causes SIDS, but i'd like some ACCURATE info on what reasearch has been done.

Firstly take a deep breath.
2ndly I know its easier to say but stop worring! There's no conclusive evidence to say this this and this cause it.

I never put cot bumpers on as I saw it as a risk of restricting airflow through the cot

2nd feet to bottom of cot.if they sleep with legs curled then move them down further.

No loose blankets

Optimal room temp 18-20'c

No hats at night

Don't over do it on layers

And they also say don't let them sleep on thei4 fronts. My son however would only sleep on his front so we got a special mattress with holes in so it couldn't restrict oxygen.

thanks. i know that there's nothing conclusive, and im trying not to focus on it TOO much, i'd just like some info/tips - just so i can feel like im not agrivating the situation if that makes sense.

I constantly worry about this also as hubby smokes. Altho he says that once baby is here,he will quit. I really hope so but he has been a long term smoker and smokes a fair amount. So I know how hard it will be. I gave up in 2006 and haven't smoked since.xx

Breastfeeding is meant to reduce the risk as well, it's probably similar to giving a dummy the sucking reflex keeps them busy.

Try not to worry xxx

There is lots and lots of advice online hun. This terrified me too when I found out i was pregnant, and the fear got worse when he was born. I couldn't sleep for fear he would stop breathing if I took my eyes off him, it was exhausting. In the end we coslept, but that is obviously a very personal life choice. I do believe though keep baby close to you will help them to regulate their breathing.

I don't think I can relax with Oscar until he's 1 and the risks drop drastically at that age. Think 2-4 months if the high risk age, then after 6 months it drops alot, then 1 year even more.

Like said though, there is alot of info online

 I am terrified of this too even tho there has been no history in our families.
All u can do is reduce the risk factors such as good air flow and the movement monitor x x
