Whats the theory behind doing this? just ask as I'm not sure its necessary, I'm really not very good at washing as my washing machine is 1000 years old and the white stuff just goes grey really quickly. want his stuff to look nice for as long as possible.

I could remember whether i did with Adam, so i asked my OH whether he could remember and he said i never, im not sure what the guidelines are though x x

im quite interested in this... i also turn whites an off white colour very quickly :( i dont know how im so bad at it
x

The baby will outgrow the clothes long before they get gray...

Clothes can have dust, industry crap from when they were made, maybe other people touched them etc....newborns skin is so delicate. I wash all of even our adult clothes before we wear them.

I have to admit - I never really thought about doing this. But there's a thread on here somewhere about pre-washing. And it seems that most people do it at least for the first wee while.

I guess if you're not keen on putting stuff through the washing maching - maybe you could give some of it a quick hand wash to take of some of the shop grime.

xxx

ive always washed baby clothes and because i work in a shop that sells them, warehouses arent the cleanest places. x

I would wash them as well, gets all the crap off them from shops and warehouse, their skin so delicate, just make sure you use a non bio detergent etc

your supposed to wash all new clothes before wearing them as they could have any germs or chemicals on them as u never know where they have been, its rare to have problems but better safe than sorry when it comes to baby

I personally wouldnt. I've also heard stories about people who've washed all their newborn clothes and they've ended up with a big baby so they don't even get to use the clothes and cant take them back to the shop

Didn't think you needed to wash them if they were wrapped up and sealed? or is just for clothes hanging on hangers?

I washed all my sons have no clue why but got told to so did it!! loool Just kept thinking if I didnt and my baby had a skin reaction or summin I would just blame myself... not wat u need! xxxx

I've been wondering about this too! Think I will wash what stuff I have, maybe just a quick hand wash though to get any bacteria off x x

The only 2 things I washed of Jack's were 2 pairs of dungarees I bought from a 2nd hand baby sale, just because I wanted to make sure they were clean seeing as other babies had worn them before. I also washed his bath towels but I wash any new bath towel or they don't dry you properly.

I never washed any of his new clothes and his skin is lovely! I wanted him to wear them brand new, not washed.

It's very much a personal preference but I don't see the point in making more work for yourself when you're huge and uncomfy! Especially in this heat! :) x

Well I know I never washed them for my last 3 because it didn't even occur to me to do that when they are new, if they were second hand I would but I think I'll just keep to the way I did things for my last 3, never had any problems with them :D

I have washed all the stuff we've been given that is second hand, but not the new stuff in case it doesn't fit and we need to take it back. I have put in her bag new stuff, but also added some second hand clean stuff so that if she is uncomfortable in clothes that haven't been washed, there is something to put her in. If she reacts to it, then OH (or my mum) will be coming round and washing everything that still has tags on

never washed anything new with my other 2 apart from the stuff my mum and i knitted and also with my second i washed the stuff that had been in the loft from my first. never had any problems xxx

Am washing everything we've been given now. Will be washing all the new clothes before baby wears them, once Pickle arrives and we know what size he/she is, we'll be washing the rest (well my mum has offered) if it'll fit him or her.

If not we're going straight back to the shop with them for bigger sizes! In my hospital bag we have newborn and 0-3 sizes just in case we have a big baby.

Have always washed new clothes before wearing them, gets rid of dirt and grime they may have picked up plus any traces of chemicals from the manufacturing process.
