Has anyone else felt like this? I don't know if its anything to do with pregnancy or not  Yesterday and today i can feel my heart pounding in my chest.. sometmes it will go away and then all of a sudden my heart will "thump" again.

I had 3 cups of tea yesterday and chocolate so I thought maybe it was too much caffenine? But I still feel it today and i have a sore head - not sure thats connected. I've been drinking loads of water so i dont know whats up.

Im dying for more chocolate though i cant get enough... please dont say I shouldnt have any today! Was planning on having some of my huge areo bar with tea

Ive been getting this too hun and I have hardly any caffine in my diet.

Apparently your heart and lungs work up to 50% more now we're pregnant so its probably a result of that??

Yeah  Oh well, at least I can have chocolate and tea guilt free today!!

Dont worry its perfectly normal, but quite disconcerting, and takes some getting used to!

I have had it since the 2nd Tri and always feels like Im having some sort of anxiety attack, although im not actually anxious about anything!

At the moment I struggle to breathe normally as my babies head is stuck under my ribs and is pressing on my lungs........

Found this online:

You may experience a pounding or fluttering feeling in your chest starting in the second trimester of pregnancy. Find out what causes it and how to feel better.

What causes a pounding heart in pregnancy?
At times, you may feel a fluttering or pounding sensation in your chest, especially when standing up from a lying or sitting position. This odd feeling results from changes in your blood pressure as your circulation system quickly expands during the second trimester. It's usually not a sign of problems, but you should tell your doctor about it, particularly if you're also feeling short of breath or having chest pains.

Thanks Ellie! :)

I've had this too...sometimes my heart can start pounding really really fast for a good five minutes and I normally try and relax and hope it calms down. I don't touch caffeine or chocolate much at the moment so I think it's just the changes your heart goes through during pregnancy. I watched a programme on TV that said your lungs move higher up in your chest so have to work harder and your heart rotates a full 45 degrees to accomodate growing bump!

wow.. it just shows you that we dont know the half of what happens in there!

yeah ive been getting it as well... im used to it cause get it alot pregnant or not!! its scary but if you panic about it at the time it will make it feel worse... take some nice deep breath's when it happens and it will just pass... its amazing whats going on inside your body while pregnant that you just don't think about!!

ummmm i'd say your having palpatations perfectly normal hun, however i haven't got them this time round :D then again i had a valve replacement 3/4 years ago and the docs have said my heart is in perfect working ofter which is great news
i had it with my other 2 tho :) aparently it's to do with the extra blood pumping around your body plus the extra weight we put on while pregnant

I have been having this too. Wasnt sure if linked to pregnancy though as used to get panic attacks and thought it was linked. I have also been short of breath lately, which again i linked to my childhood illness of asthma. Am relieved I am not alone and that this is normal.

I am experiencing this too. I am an anxious person though and do suffer with palpitations and a rapid heart beat at times. What works for me is 1. do not worry about it, even though its not pleasant it wont harm you, 2. sit and relax or stand if its easier, breath out first then take steady deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth for a couple of mins, or until your heart rate settles. It does take some practice but once you get the hang of it you'll find it really helps. Diaphragmatic breathing its called ( I hope I spelt that right!) you can probably find a more detailed explanation online somewhere, but it helps me.

Thank you for this thread, its really helped me, I've been getting a hard thumping in my chest today and it was quite scar, but it looks as though its quite normal :) relieved xx

ive had this too, and sometimes it feels as though i miss a beat just before it starts. glad im not alone!

I'm so glad someone started this thread, I get this all the time. Like one big heartbeat and then it sometimes feels like you've missed a beat... I get this loads and was starting to panic I had an irregular heartbeat or something LOL! x

Hey, I just caught this thread; I have exactly the same problem!! My doc put it down to blood taking longer to get round the body as we are larger, therefore reaching organs slower than usual, but also your organs are being crushed upwards and I think that is an uncomfortable feeling to, but I get palpitations and feeling like I cannot breath sometimes, glad I am not alone in that; heartburn and indegestion are also awful xx

I've been getting this and I'm only Tri 1!
I get a boomb-b-boomboom....BOOM and I go what the heck was that??
I thought I was just nervous about the scan but then it came back after I'd had it so I was puzzled again
Glad it's not just me! xx

me too :)

im slowly getting used to all these weird pregnancy things lol

my doc has put mine down to a few things, including a newly detected heart murmur
Id suggest you all mention it to doc or midwife just so they can check you over, my mw said the heart murmur will have to be looked into by a specialist before the birth incase its going to cause any complications...so might be best to ask just incase any of you are the same

my new theory is i just mention everything weird that happens to me and my body to the mw or the doc just incase it means anything (especially all together lol)
