Hello, Can anyone recommend a good book for potty training, or any general pearls of wisdom, TIA x

No advice but stalking this thread... x

Im doing my son in october when he turns 2 and ive recovered from my section

Ive done 4 kids already and find the slow way with pullups and letting them explore potty in own time a bit modern for me.
Im 42 and just do it the old school way so might not be to everyones taste.

I just get up one morning and put them in big boy/girl pants. I have a large towell on the floor with a potty on it in middle of the lounge and then we dont go out for a week! Try to catch first wees in potty , and dont be scared to reward them with sweets, it really is no problem to drop them after a week! But really speeds up the process incentive wise ( jar of potty sweets) but a travel potty for pushchair and after a week venture out sitting them very regulary, dont worry about looks from nosy people in town etc. two to three weeks and yourll be done in the day and sometimes at night but some take a few mths more at night.

I've just potty trained my son. We stayed home for a week and let him be naked and left a potty in the lounge and he just used to when he wanted. We used a reward chart and he's pretty much been dry since except for the odd accident but that has tended to be when he's been with grand parents. Apparently my son has a bit of modesty and doesn't like to go in front of anyone else!

Thank you for taking the time to respond, I really appreciate it! I'm definition of the mindset that I won't be using 'pull ups ' the thought of not going out for a week seems a bit scarey lol.... but It's only a week eh? And besides It will be winter when I start anyway. :-) xx

I started potty training my son and used a similar approach to JJ Mum. We only stayed at home for one day though and started venturing out with the potty on day two. He only had one accident on day two and has been dry since, asking me to used the toilet when he needs it. He is even trying to self train himself at night, taking his nappy off as soon as he wakes to use the potty in his bedroom. I waited until he turned 3 to potty train and as a result it has been so easy- he hasn't needed any form of bribery atall! Xx
