Has any one ever thought about joining the police or applied?

Are there are police officers on here  . I cant think of anyone who springs to mind.

I want to join the police sooo badly.
My cousins just joined, my dad was a police man for 4 years and my cousins dads the chief inspecter of cornwall police or something.
But I dought Ill be able to do it, seen as Im having a baby and I think the hours arnt secure. :(

i think sarah (geordie) is married to a policeman, as is G3M.

my oh has been trying to apply for a while but they keep telling him they aren't recruiting at this moment :(

Its something i'm very interested in, however the size of the application form put me off slightly...its also not just a job but a way of life. I'm still thinking about it though.

Is it something your interested in?

Im thinking though that if it take a few years to get through the selection process and fitness trials and stuff, by that time my kids will both be at school.

Even if you wait till your baby is at school you will 21ish.

No such thing as ' wont be able to do it' Thats what im telling myself. Im really unfit. Running a mile and a half seems a near impossibility but there is only one thing I can do about that, get off my lazy arse and start running.

All men  Thanks Beanie, I knew I had heard someone mention police Cant believe I didnt remember Geordie. I didnt know G3M's oh was a police officer. They seem to be recruiting quite a lot in Scotland (is that a bad thing :rotfl: ).
I hope your oh gets something.

I have always looked at the police before and thought, I would never be able to do that, I would never get in. How do I know though? Im not fit so that would be a problem but not unfixable. The entrance exam doesnt worry me too much because I can study for that.
I have always thought I am only good enough for the job Im doing but they have regraded us and now Im not even good enough for that. So there is only one thing to do.. Fight upwards.
I cant say its been a lifelong ambition but Im 31, I need to do something NOW because in another 10 years it will be too late.

my friend applied for the police when she was in he early 30s. She got really far into the recruitment process but her medical showed she had used an inhalor and she was tuned down :( However she is currently a special constable and is loving doing that (as well as being in the Prison Service which she also enjoys).

i think Rhian85 did and her OH is a special constable

Thats a shame. I think I could fall down on my eye sight. Im blind as a bat, my specs are really strong.

I must look at the special constable thing.

Cheers hun!

hey yes my hubby is currently a PCSO and is going throught the recruitment stage for a pc , you need to allow about a year for application tbh . his been going on for longer but his deaf so needed extra medical tests  he also changed from applying for the met where he currently serves to essex where we want to move too . i just asked about your eyesite and he said as long as its corrected by glasses and you can pass the requirement it should be ok . he was totally dead in one ear and passed to get in as a PCSO but since his application for pc his lost 80% in his other ear so where unsure whats gonna happen .

he took a pay cut ( worked in IT ) to join and he loves his work so much !

The police have excellent childcare facilities anyway don't they? :?

I've wanted to join since I was six years old. It's all I've ever wanted. I've had three application forms but always bottled applying because I was scared of rejection. I've decided I'm going to apply in a few years or so.

It's a great career to get into.

I wanted to join when I was younger but couldn't cos I'm so shortsighted. I don't know if they've changed the rules now as that was about 7 or 8 years ago.

yup my OH is a special and has applied many times for a police officer and gets turned down . he knows somebody who is in chrage of the recruitmnet for north wales and he said that they tend not to recruite specials as they work for fee :shakehead: :shakehead: :shakehead: which if u think about it , it stupidly makes sense why pay somebody £20 grand a year when thay are exactly the same as regular officers in terms of roles/power etc only thing is they do it for free..annoying :wall: :wall:

he is going to apply for chester next as his mate has told him chester and manchester are easier to get into.

i also applied for a PCSO and with the help of lucybee with the application / spelling which may i state lucy scanned it for me for spelling and the ONLY spelling errors were in THEIR questions  i got 3 A's highest grade u can get but i got turned down due to spelling erors WTF!!!! i bet when lucy see's this she will add that the only mistakes were in thier questions..mind u this is north wales :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

if u still intrested hun lots of info on there

I am a Special constable and have applied for the regulars twice, got through the selection process but failed 2 fitness tests had one more chance at the test but pulled out

I have been a Police civilian for 6 years and with being a Special i get the best of both worlds

I dont think i will be applying again as the hours are more unsociable and the amount of paperwork per arrest is shocking

My big bro is a police officer, probably been with them around 8 years, cant really remember and he is now an armed response officer. He LOVES his job! Also one of friends is a police officer probably for around 3 years and he also really loves his job.

I think if it's something you want to do you should always go for your dreams, the worst that can happen is you don't get through and you have to change your ideas but at least you can say you tried hey.

Also i think the hours/shifts are often very regular, something like 4 days on 4 days off, with the 4 days on being a mix of night shifts and day shifts. But depends on the shift pattern that area uses. As the shifts are pretty planned out you can plan ahead with childcare etc quite easily, just may be more difficult for the night shifts if people don't have much support.

If anyone has any questions i'd be happy to pass them on to my bro or friend!

Ive just filled in an application form for police too, did one previously but didnt get around to sending it in. Ideally I wanted to go into armed forces (RAF preferably), but family werent too happy with that and I found out about Finlay so my mind changed and I figured police was close enough.

I know a few people that are/have been in the police force and have mixed reviews tbh, some loved it, others couldn't stand it. It's something I'd love to do - with the aim of going into traffic division, or possibly armed response.

The shift patterns we're changed up here a wee while back to try a new scheme, and for the most part theyre not very sociable for spending time with Bee and the wee man. :(

My application will be going in this time though lol see how I do... my only other concern was the policy on tattoos, as I love them and plan on my whole arms etc being done, not sure how it'd be looked upon if i did!

I saw a copper not long ago with a huge tattoo on his forearm.

I was a Police Officer for Merseyside Police, I couldn't continue in the force
due to shift work and children, plus it wasn't good for my marriage.
I still work for the Home Office though.

Tattoos should not be offensive, e.g express political views etc.

Good luck if you apply. It is also assessment centre based, has been for a few years

xx
