Playing with newborns

Hi girls,

Just wondering what you all did with yours in the early days with regards to playtime.

Blake has no toys whatsoever. He has a play mat which I've been putting him on and I've been singing to him. I just feel guilty because most of the time he's just in my arms and im on here or watching TV. I feel like I should be paying him more attention but I don't know what to do with him!

Anyone any suggestions?
 
Any good recommendations for toys that will stimulate him?
 
my brothers little one is 10 weeks now and he is stimulated by lights and the animals on his bouncy chair as he is just starting to recognise things. We havent got any toys for our baby when he arrives just a bouncy chair and gym x hth am interested to see what other answers there are.
 
Charley has toys but he's too young ATM. He's getting more alert now and stays awake for longer now so I put him on his play gym or bouncer and chat too him. He's not really interested in the telly yet. Lights and sounds are good for babies! Charley loves his light show even though it's for bed time!
 
At that age hun there's not a lot you can do. Drake was more interested in peoples faces, walls and curtains..he still is! Show him a toy and he's not interested lol

All i've been doing is singing and talking to him, lie in his play gym (which he's not fussed on!) walking him round from room to room to see different things. Oh i've put him in his swing when i need a bath and his bouncer downstairs if i need to do anything. Both of these have toys attched but he's more interested in the lampost outside (he smiles at it..haha!)

Apart from the odd soft dangly toy (to put on his car seat) ive only just bought him a couple of toys!

Drake is obsessed with my spot lights in the bathroom lmao
 
Thank goodness your bubba's are obsessed with lights too! Seb is fascinated by them! I sing a lot, put him on his play gym, chatter away (he chatters back now!) about anything and we've bought a Lamaze knot toy and a Lamaze firefly toy. Both have contrasting colours (black and white, orange and purple etc) with patterns, textures, mirrors etc on. We got them from tesco extra and they were (IMHO) cheap! Seb loves them! He also has a soft Roo rattle that he enjoys grasping and moving. And after all that his favourite thing to do is watch me and my face! Lol!
 
When Lacey was a baby we put the Xmas lights up and she could watch them for hours! Gonna put our lights up this weekend for charley to stare at!
 
We've bought seb a kick and light gym for Christmas because he's a little wriggler and loves lights! x
 
I've just been looking on the Internet for toys with lights. I don't want to get a swing or another play mat, is there anything you recommend getting Helen? x x

It doesn't have lights but Seb loves the patterns and textures x
 
I love all the lamaze stuff, it's fab. We have girrafe, horse and inch worm. We also go the lamaze tummy time surf baord, he's not able to push himself round on it yet buts it damn cute!! http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs..._mmc=Froogle-_-Shopping Sites-_-CPC-_-Froogle

Apart from that Owen just has play gym and bouncer chair, he loves trying to bat the stuff and becoming a bit more co-ordinated now! He also loves staring at lights and is a tv addict! I have to make sure he's turned away if I'mwatching-I don't want him watching it too much lol!
 
Lacey had something quite similar to that but she couldn't kick it. I like the idea of that cos they get to kick their legs but also keeps them occupied with the lights! Laceys was a piano that you stare at when newborn then can start playing with from sitting up so wasn't very good!
 
Ooooh good to know it's recommended!

Oooooh will def have to look at some other Lamaze stuff! I completely love it! So colourful and textural! That surf thing sounds great!
 
I have the sir prancealot but its a bit big for Harvey at the mo!!! He cant get his hands around it but he loves the colours!! We got him a tomy thing for xmas it goes in the car and it acts like a mirror for you to see him/ him to look at and when he crys it plyas music and has a light show and he loved it in the shop!!

Harvey has his 2 playmats that i alternate but he loves laying on one and i play with his legs/ feet!! Only problem is everytime i change him he thinks i'm going to play with his feet lol!!
 
My niece was obsessed with my brothers fish tank when she was tiny (and she still is now!). Don't know if it was the movement of the fish or the lighting behind the tank but whenever she cried you just had to show her the fish and she'd be fascinated! If I could be bothered with keeping fish I'd think about getting a small tank but it's not really something I want lol. I'll just go over to my brother's house :)
 
noa loves his mobile at his changin table n we spend alot of time there singing! other the that he likes to look at me :D
