Hi ladies, I had my 20 week scan yesterday and while baby is developing well I got told I have placenta praevia and will need another scan at 32 weeks. Has anyone else been told this during their pregnancy? I didn’t get to see anyone after to discuss it so I’ve made an appointment with my midwife next week as I need to discuss a couple of things with her anyway. Just looking for some advice and reassurance really. Thanks

My cousin had it. She started bleeding on and off around 19 weeks and at 25 weeks she was put on total bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy. She wasn't allowed to do anything! Baby was born healthy though.

I had placenta previa it was lying low covering cervix. and was told to avoid sex in third trimester. I had a scan at 34 weeks and it showed that placenta moved up and I was able to give birth naturally. My midwife told me its 99% all placentas move up in a later stage of pregnancy. All the best.

Charlotte is correct - many women have a low lying placenta at 20/40... which have moved by 34/40. The most important thing is between now and that scan, if you have any bleeding, to contact your maternity unit.

Thank you ladies, that reassures me, she said it’s partially covering my cervix, but didn’t really give me any advice so I just assumed I should avoid heavy lifting etc. Avoiding sex will go down well with the OH. NOT!
