What pain relief are you going to have?

I just want gas and air! Hopefully that will do... but been told I can ask for pethidine or diamorphine when Im in labour if I need it

My fiance and my sister are going to be there when Im in labour :)

im going for gas and air. dont really have much choice tho cus im shite scared of needles so an epidural is a no no in any situation even a c-section and i have tried pethidine and it made me fell worse and like i wasnt in control. im not to keen on gas and air either but it did help with calming me down during the pushin stage so goin to try that again.

i will have my OH if he sticks it out this time (feels helpless seeing me in pain)and my mum if she is given enough notice to get the day off work lol or it mite just be me!!

aww id hate to be in labour on my own! need some support 8)

I heard pethidine just make you tired, but diamorphine helps with pain

I heard too many bad stories about epidurals! anyways i hate needles too

the thing i didnt like about pethidine was that it made you feel really drunk and drugged up and i felt like i had no control. i was sick as soon as i had it and felt nauseous until it wore off. i dont want it this time becus i want to remember what i can from the labour and also to be able to make my own decisions during labour (as she got quite stressed out last time) about c-sections n stuff and pethidine took that away last time.

i was never offered diamorphine but i had a quick labour it was only 5 1/2 hours.

each person reacts differently to pethidine tho so i would still recommend ppl try it if they want a bit more pain relief than just gas and air it just wasnt right for me. my friend however found it was great and it calmed her down so she could rest and also allowed her to eat to build strength.

i dont think i will be on my own TBH, if i go naturally i want to stay at home for as long as possible and can warn my mum in time and if im induced you know at least 24 hours before so she wil be able to get time off then.

aww well at least you know whats good for you :)
hopefully ill manage on the gas and air but we will see...

with it being my first, obv i dont know how much of the pain I can handle without needing more meds.

i hope my labour comes naturally, dont fancy being induced.

Just gas and air for me and waterbirth so will be using the pool as pain relief did the same with my last 2 aswell and managed with just the water and gas and air which makes a far quicker recovery :cheer:

does a water birth help relax you aswell?
I was considering having one but dont think im bothering

Just a word of advice- keep an open mind!!

I think next time Im not gonna bother with a birth plan, Im just gonna go with the flow lol

I went in with it with an open mind.

id had period-like pains for about 12-16 hours and then next minute they hurt alot and i kept throwing up - by the time i was in the hospital i was alot of pain and was nearly 4cm dilated. -i then had gass and air which was AMAZING.

but a futher 12 hours later i felt like it wasnt doing it really. - i was only 7cm at that point!

i then had absolutly everything.

and still felt pain.

about 4 hours after that... I THEN had a baby.

lmao..

open mind INDEED.

yeah, like I say Ive said I want gas and air but may ask for other drugs to help the pain! 8)

Same as many of the above, I want to try surviving on TENS machine and gas & air first, then will request for diamorphine and/or epidural depending on how I feel at the time.

Yes it sure does, well did for me, when you get in the pool at about 5-6 cm dilated it really helps sooth your back pain, and i am able to manage with just gas and air and the water and it is such a nice calm experience and my hubby also comes in the pool with me and splashes warm water over my back and when baby is born we both pick baby up from the bottom of the pool together and spend a while cuddling in the water with baby its lovely. :D

But yes as others have said always best to keep an open mind as you wont know till you get there how you will be able to deal with the pain
