Ovulation test question and advice

Hi all,

I've been a long time lurker and thought it was about I start joining in!

After 2 months of trying for a baby I have decided to start testing for ovulation using the clear blue digital tests.

I did a test at 14:30 today and got a smiley face but am worried I did the test wrong as I am on day 9 of my cycle so am either ovulating earlier than I ever thought! I am worried that I peed for too long on the stick as well (couldn't see what the hell was going on down there and seriously need to improve my target haha!). Would I be able to test again tonight after a few hours and this time in a cup? Would the results be reliable?

Hi and welcome to the forum

It is best to test with opks in the afternoon or evening. Fmu or particularly strong urine (ie if you're dehydrated/hungover) can give false positives.

It's possible to ovulate as early as cd9 but I would expect to have quite a short cycle if that was the case ie 25/26 days. How long are your cycles usually?

You can test more than once a day and lots of ladies do to make sure they catch their surge as sometimes it's only there for a few hours. Just make sure you hold your wee for 3-4 hours before testing and don't drink too much beforehand.

I actually do exactly what Browneyedgirl does... I use the cheepy ebay opk sticks to narrow down the window, using them at 12 noon and 4pm and then I now recognise the darkness of lines for me, and back up what I think is a pos with a clearblue smiley face test. actually I shouldn't need the expensive ones soon as I can see what would be a pos after a couple fo cycles.

Hi ladies,

Thank you so much for replying. My cycles are between 26 and 28 days long. I did an opk today after work and got another smiley face which is more believable as this is day 14 of my cycle! Think I may have had a surge or I did it incorrect on the first one (I'll see what next months pattern is like).

I'm trying to do the sperm meets egg plan so looks like 3 days of sex in a row again (we had 3 days is a row for the first smiley just in case), though it will be 4 as we Dtd last night....hubby will be happy!!
