Hi guys, I just need someone to talk to... I have a constant stabbing pain in my left ovary but no other problems/symptoms. This is my first month TTC so the doc made me do a pregnancy test at the clinic to rule out an ectopic pregnancy, though even if I am pregnant I doubt it would've showed up on the test. AF isn't even late yet and I emptied my bladder about 15mins before the appointment.. oops. Anyway, test was negative. It didn't really matter though, I need to have a transvaginal ultrasound tomorrow to look at my poor ovary and I'm pretty terrified!! Will it hurt? Is it worse than a Pap smear? Because I really hate having them...

Also, has anyone had any similar pain? What was the cause for you?

Hiya, I'm sorry to hear you're in pain :-( I've had one of those ultrasounds and it was soooooo much better than a smear. Doesn't hurt at all, just mildly uncomfortable. I recommend going to the loo beforehand even if you don't really need a wee, as I spent the whole time feeling like it was pressing against my bladder! Good luck x

Ah thank you, I feel mildly better now :)

Oh really? They told me over the phone that I need to drink 1L of water half an hour before my appointment so that my bladder is full!

I had one of them...it could be a cyst. They are pretty common. Definitely empty your bowels! Otherwise it causes problems.

A cyst is what I was thinking and after the negative test it's what the doctor said is most likely. I was hoping a regular ultrasound would cut it though haha. Oh dear, thanks for the tip!

If you have an ultrasound and there is a cyst, they will do an MRI. I had that.

Hi I had this procedure done last week, I had an ultrasound with a full bladder , then after going toilet I had a camera up, I prefer it to a smear test ., didn’t feel anything only slight pressing on my side wall when looking at ovary ....... good luck hope you get things sorted x

They didn't say anything to me about having a full bladder lol, just asked if I needed to go to the loo beforehand (I didn't think I did but wished I had!)

Thanks for the responses guys. I had my scan. Happy to report that it was totally fine! I had to have a full bladder so they could do an abdominal ultrasound. Then I got to empty my bladder and they did the internal scan. The probe wasnt very big, probably half the size of a speculum. It was a bit unpleasant being inserted but I could hardly feel it once it was in there. My Pap smear was soooo much worse. Now I await my results...
