I was just wondering if anyone else has been asked to take part in these studies?
At my 12 week scan I was asked if I would take part as I had loop treatment on my cervix a few years back. They're doing a nationwide study into whether loop treatment can cause pre-term labour. They take a swab from behind the cervix to see if it contains fibronectin, if it is found in high quantities there is a higher chance you will deliver pre-term. If this is the case they give some people progesterone to see if that helps prevent early labour.
I had my test today, and thankfully it was negative so I don't have to have any further treatment
I also took part in the Poppy study, whereby they test your saliva for progesterone. It wasn't pleasant, I had to fill a pot with 5ml of saliva That's tested at a later date though.
It certainly was an interesting visit to the maternity unit today!
