Sunday 6th
I was in the bath and noticed I was getting regular "braxton hicks" every 10mins which were not that sore but definitely easy to time. Went to bed timing them but they didn't seem to be getting any stronger so went to sleep.
Woke up about 3am with cramps and then at 3:45am my waters went and I began timing contractions which were now every 6mins.
Husband phoned the labour ward and they said to make our way there but I was getting diahorrea and couldn't leave straight away so by the time we left my contractions were 4mins apart and quite nippy, I found myself breathing through them now. We left the house and when we arrived at hospital I was examined and I was 5cm dilated! I asked for gas but they didn't have any down in the exam room and had to wait 10mins until my birthing pool was ready and could have gas then.
We walked up to the room (stopping every so often so I could breathe through each contraction) and the room was ready but no water in the pool yet.
At 6am i got changed into my
nightdress and got the gas which was such a relief, i loved it. Breathed and rocked my way through each contraction and then when I was next checked I was fully dilated! No time for a water birth now.
Got up on the bed and tried pushing out the head. The MW said to not take the gas when pushing as it was slowing everything down but i said no lol. Even hubby couldn't take it off me. But I did give it back to her and pushed out head, then a huge relief as his body gushed out too. Then we were told it was a boy- I couldn't believe it. He was born at 6:49am making this labour only 3 hours long!
I only ended up with a minor cosmetic stitch which the MW couldn't believe as he was 8lb 14. They weighed him twice to make sure he was that heavy! No wonder I was so uncomfortable in pregnancy. I had quite bad after pains this time so asked for pain killers straight away which worked.
He was put on my chest for skin to skin and he was just perfect. Totally like his big sister. Couldn't believe I now had a son aswell as a daughter.
I gave birth at 6:49am and was back home by 2pm the same day.
We are just so happy he's the most contented baby I've ever seen.
