October Mummies!

I have a question. Sorry if this was already discussed somewhere in those first 20 pages. It may seem strange that I don't really know but is there much of a benefit in having the 12 week scan as opposed to just having the normal 20 week scan? I know it can identify higher risks of down syndrome but what else does it pick up that the 20 week scan doesn't?

Brilliant advice @MammaOfMany thanks! I don’t think I’d cope with being pregnant again the sickness this time round feels never ending and I’m still eating like a horse to stop the nausea!

I am so uncomfortable tonight. I'm constipated and bloated, when I stretch my body, my stomach feels like its pulling inside - anyone else had this? Or have a miracle cure to make me poo!?!

Also I spoke to a woman at work today who kindly told me she came back from a skiing holiday to Italy last week. So even though I'm so not usually a hypochondriac, I'm slightly concerned.. I'm going to see my midwife tomorrow for repeat bloods (first ones failed - no blood!) So think I might ask her opinion!

I’d try a cup of coffee and a lot of water. The feeling you’re describing about the pulling inside though is probably round ligament pain :)

where do you live? I’m in the US

I cant drink coffee, never have done, but had a lot of water this morning and I've been! Yeah I was thinking it could be round ligament pain. I'm in the UK :)

It’s such a relief when you go isn’t it! God we’re all so glamorous right now!! X

Pregnancy isn't very glamorous is it, especially first and last trimester.

It's nice to see people from all over the world unite; I'm in Australia.

Just wondering, did anyone see my question about the 12 week scan? I've never had it done before and I'm thinking I probably won't again but I am getting on in age (38) and I'm considering whether it's worthwhile doing. It's something I'll need to pay out of pocket for if I am going to get it done too.

I see that you’re in Australia so maybe it’s different here in the UK but 12 week scan is the dating scan which gives you your official estimated due date which is probably the most important thing you can find out! As it tells you exactly how far along you are in your pregnancy based on the baby’s size. It also means you are tested for down’s, edward’s syndrome and Patau’s syndrome.

Thank you @kathryn85 for your reply. I have already had a dating scan at almost 8 weeks. I know that down syndrome has a much higher chance of being picked up in the 12 week scan but the other ones you mentioned seem to be things that would be picked up in the 20 week scan? I would not be wanting to terminate and the only reason for finding out would be to make preparations and if things would be picked up at 20 weeks then I'm not convinced it's worth it.

Fair enough! Here the 12 week scan is the first scan we get and we are fortunate to get free health care. Having said that, I went for a private scan last week just because I didn’t want to wait and I wanted to know everything was ok!

I hate to be this person so early.. but this appeared today and it's a totally different shape to before. I cant suck it in, below my belly button my stomach sticks out.. is this the start of a bump!?

Am sure it is! I’ve been showing for weeks but think that’s just because it’s a second pregnancy (and it’s bigger in the evening when I’ve been eating!)

So excited!

Aw! Looks like it!! I’m already showing as well but it’s because it’s my second pregnancy I’m assuming.

Has anyone else got the most disgusting taste in their mouth all the time?

I did the last 2 times I was pregnant but I thankfully haven't this time! I found chewing gum helped alot!

Also I've got a proper muffin top in my work uniform lol, look like I've been trying to put my winter insulation on, this is pregnancy number 6 for me though so I thought I might show early lol, trying to hide it under baggy fleeces

@MammaOfMany The 12 week scan/blood test combo give you an overall risk factor for a few chromosomal abnormalifies, if you're deemed higher risk after that you can have further testing. Some of the things they're testing for are not compatible with life outside the womb so it's best to know before you get all the way to 20 weeks. Are you doing the harmony/nipt test? If you're doing that you probably don't need to do the scan, but my doctor said I should anyway to make sure everything is going alright. I'm in Australia too :)
