.....with results of todays antinatal appt!!

Well I had some not so good news today!

I have to see the Diabetic consultant the baby consultant and the diabetic nurse every wed starting today with being diagnosed last week...

so ive been doing my bloods and they've been ok till yest morning, last night and this morning...slightly higher than they should be....

so when I went this morning and they tested and my bloods are slowing increasing on their own and consultant explained that this is because the hormones we need to sustain the pregnancy fight against the production and distribution of my own naturally produced insulin and mine arnt doing their job!

Explained that its nothing Im doing wrong just some people are prone to it and others arnt and the fact that my dad and brother was/is insulin dependant diabetic hasnt helped as its in the family history so.....hes put me on diabetic medication taking one a day for a week till he sees me next wed, then go onto to 2 a day from next wed and the biggy is that when I hit 6months preg I have to be topped up with insulin injections!

So not happy about that but it has to be done to ensure the baby doesnt grow too big!

Hes said it wont harm or affect the baby at all so im happy about that but I have to admit the thought of injecting myself isnt appealing!

But ive lost another 1.5lbs so hes happy with that and so am I....Im up to 27lbs now so even though its not helping the diabetes as that out of my control, it means whatever I may put on in the future, I am nearly 2 stone lighter than when I started out!

So not a bad day all round....anyone else had to inject through gest diabetes whilst pregnant?? xxx

I haven't but my friend did she had her baby early though 36 weeks i think she was and baby weighed about 7lb then, she had to spend a few days in scbu to stable her sugars but everything was fine, she is 6 now and no problems at all infact she is a very clever little girl.

Thanks for that MOM....yeah they said I wont go full term as Im also prone to prem deliveries and now with having this im even less likely to go full term!!

But yeah its not as daunting as it first sounds...xxx

Sorry I don't have any experience, but having grown up with my dad being a type 1 diabetic I've watched him inject himself my whole life. He says it's no big deal and that you soon get used to it so hopefully you will be ok :)

it sounds like you're being really well cared for which must be a comfort too!

No experience hon but sending hugs x

Sounds like you're doing fantastically though! What great weight loss! x

I've no experience either Hun, but it does sound like your controlling it well. Big :hugs:

Thanks ladies....yeah I suppose as long as I keep on with the healthy lifestyle thats as much as I can do as bless the consultant he did reassure me its nothing Im doing wrong just that my body isnt working right so yeah I suppose it wont be too bad...just have to syke myself up for the self injecting when the time comes!!! Eeeeek!! xx

I think you sound like your coping really well with all of this Wilma, and at least they will have it all under control now so baby and your body is kept as happy as can be

And wow for your continued weightloss, you are going to be tiny by the time you have the baby, sort of reverse what everyone else does - keep up the good work.

Wilma, your doing so well so far babes, dont be afraid of needing to inject. I know ive been insulin dependant for years so ive got used to it, but it is so much easier to control your sugars when on insulin. They will teach you how and where to do it and it sounds like they are giving you constant support so make the most of that and ask questions etc.

Good luck, you will do fine.

Thanks JJ....yeah Im coping well with it all just my bloods are still creeping up even with the meds so I fear when I see the consultant again on wed it will poss be straight onto insulin injections! Will see what happens tho but yes I can not complaing I am getting very closely monitored and very well looked after thanks...xxx

Thanks Collette...althought its daunting the thought of injecting myself like you say I will get used to it quickly and if means I wont be pushing a bowling ball size baby through a straw then yeyyyy lol!! xxx

lol, believe me you will feel sdo much better if your sugars are still high and have to go on insulin, you wont feel as tired, or probably thirsty.

That sounds good to me!! Since last wed my bloods have only been on target three times and I test twice a day so I think he may try me on the meds twice a day as of Wed as planned or I guess theres a chance he will stick me straight onto insulin! Anything to make me feel better and yeah Im sleeping lots again but not sure if thats down to my ME/MS fatigue, pregnancy fatigue, diabetes or a bit of everything lol!

xx
