Her last weighing at 9 weeks she was 10lb 7oz.. Shes now 13weeks and is only 11lb 10oz... Shes only put on 1lb 3oz in 4 weeks!

Would you be worried? I am going to ring my pediatrician and demand a review on her medication and formula. Or do you think I am over reacting? x

Hey hun

Looking through Ella's red book she normally puts between 1.5lb -2lbs on in a 4 week period

Did the HV comment on the weight gain?

If your arent happy I'd get it checked, can't do any harm can it xx

She had trouble with her feeding didn't she Lou? I wouldnt be worried if you think she is feeding well now. I would see how she is next weigh in and then take it from there. Saying that if it is worrying you it won't do any harm to have a chat about it x

Has Harlow's percentile changed? I tend to go more on that than the actual weight gain. Emily was a low birth weight, but has put on lots of weight so is now on the 50th percentile. I have been worrying that she put on too much weight too quickly, but was told by dr not to worry. If Harlow has dropped to a lower percentile, then maybe get a review of her medication and formula, otherwise I probably wouldn't worry. X

Thats good to know! Thanks Jo! I figured she should have put on a bit more with the "12 week growth spurt" that babies are supposed to have..

The health visitor did comment yeah, she has dropped below the 25 centile line she was following.

x

Oops, I hadn't noticed your comments Amy and Nic!

Yeah Amy, she was fussing over cows milk based formula really bad. I changed her over to Soya over 5 weeks ago now so expected her to have put on abit more weight.

Nic, she has dropped centiles, She was in between the 25 centile and 50 centile, now she has dropped a touch under 25 centile... It doesn't look like the Soya is giving her what she needs in my opinion..

Is there such thing as a dietician for babies? I think it may be that type of person I need? x

THe HV only worry if they cross 2 centile lines, if they didnt comment then they prob arent worried, I kept a note of harrisons feeds so I had a record to see if he wasnt taking in enough!! Babies weight gain does go down when they are a little bigger!!

Thanks Mrs N, I am glad I asked on here now. My HV isn't the best at times. I find its me who explains things to her half the time! She didn't even know that Lactose Intolerance can cause Reflux!

She takes between 20oz - 25oz a day.. Would you consider this ok? x

Tegan never gained weight well which was due to the lactose intolerance havent got her red book on me but will look later.
There is such thing as a dietician for babies your peaditrician can refer you. maybe they'll prescribe formula?

Try not to worry hun, some babies are smaller at 18 months tegans just over 20lb xx

If you're worried I'd ask for specialist advice. My LO was 7lbs 9oz at birth and now at 6 weeks is 13lbs xx

i would say if the HVs werent worried then you shouldnt be, but just speak to your GP if you think its a problem, thats what they're there for :) i think i would feel the same as you if it were Max!

xxxxx

D gained 1lb in a 5 week period and has dropped like Harlow from between the 25th and the 50th to below the 25th. The HV wasn't worried but as I had a drs appt booked for him anyway I spoke to her. She said to keep an eye on it and take him in a couple of weeks whereas the HV said wait another month! He has between 22 and 28oz a day but has just started taking 6oz bottles so it's increasing. If your worried speak to the Dr x

i wouldn't overly worry, my lo took 5 weeks to put on a 1lb. she took massives amount of formula as well, she was just very active. some babies are just a bit smaller, think my lo will be in her first stage car seat until she is 2!!!

I should add D is extremely active too. He's been rolling since 12weeks and has been sitting for about 2 weeks now which all uses so much energy! X

Thank you all so much! I really got myself flustered thinking I had done the wrong thing putting her on Soya formula!

I am still going to ask for a review with the paediatrician anyway as she is due to be seen anyway.

I am hoping I can get a better formula prescribed x

Has she had a cold or anything over the last 4 weeks? When Ella had a cold she hardly put any weight on that week at all, she was completely off her feeds x

Hi Hun just did a bit of a google and soya milk has far less calories than normal milk also it adults it can promote weight loss don't know if that's the same for babies.
As she's on soya it may mean her projected growth will now change

Xx

Nope, she hasn't had a cold recently. She has gone from wanting feeding every 4 hours instead of the 3 hours she was on.

Ohhh, I didn't know that Sue! Thanks for researching that! Just trying to get in touch with the pediatrician now but not getting anywhere! Always engaged!!! Grrr! x

Josh only put on 11lb in 6 weeks. HV wasn't too concerned as he had only dropped one percentile from his birthweight. He had rapid growth in first 7 or 8 weeks too. Check with your HV, and see what they say but I wouldn't worry too much. As long as she is gaining.xx

Harrison is basically the same age as harlow and he has between 7 and 8 oz a feed 6 times a day so that is about 45 oz but he is piling on the pounds as he didnt put any on for about 4 weeks!! If the doc is concerned then they will give her fortified milk or stuff to go in her current milk that fortifies it!! Try not to worry harrison has growth spurts so some weeks will put on a lb and other times he wont put on anything!!
