Hi everyone, I am curious is it even remotely normal to be staying up all night and most of the day and only getting 2 or 3 hours of sleep each day?

Every time I try and sleep I get so restless or hot or cold or just plain uncomfortable and wind up getting up and not sleeping. And if so any suggestions on how I CAN get some sleep? It's got me really worried because this is not normal for me. I just don't know what I'm supposed to do... I'm worried this might hurt my babies development and health. Anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions would be really helpful thanks!

Nope completely normal, even if it is a bit crap! Baby takes everything it needs from you, so while you feel horrible it'll be fine in there!

In my last pregnancy I had insomnia for the first few weeks. It was awful but it did go away and didn't last long xx

I was like this at around 3 weeks pregnant, which is why I tested. Since then though, I have been flat out exhausted and drained. Then last night I struggled to sleep and today seem to have more energy in short bursts.
I think it's different for everyone, but I'm sure it's completely normal for a short while.

If it goes on more than a few days to a week, I would have a word with the doctor/midwife though as sleep deprivation isn't something I can imagine will help baby very much, and will probably make things like morning sickness and emotions worse.

Thank you so much, I'm so glad it's at least normal. Least it's one less thing to worry about. Hopefully I can sleep soon haha.

It has been going on for the last 2 weeks sadly, and I admit my emotions do feel like they have been pretty crazy. But, I figured the emotions were due to hormones. I'll just tell my doc next time I speak with them.

However, in the mean time anyone know of any good home remedies that might help? Thank you again for your responses:)

Take all electronics out of your room and have your bed be only a place of sleep. I heard this helps people wind down enough to sleep.

What I tend to do is place a little bag of lavender and chamomile herbs under my pillow, and have a warm chamomile bath before bed. Both are relaxing herbs associated with sleep.

I'll definitely give that a try! Thank you!

I've been exactly the same...and the sleeplessness isn't down to baby one (for once!)
He's peacefully sleeping and I'm the one being restless and uncomfortable.

I'm so exhausted during the day you'd think I'd be flat out...initially I am and then I'm awake. I keep my partner awake turning over and over and around in bed!
I was worried about babies development too with such lack of sleep but was reassured it's fine. I'm taking my prenatal vitamins and baby takes what it needs from those and my body, even though they are fine inside there and we're feelings a bit pants..doesn't seem to matter as much knowing that Xx

Good to know haha. And, yeah like I'm consistently exhausted that I seriously would think that I'd be dead asleep. But, it's just not the case. I get at most maybe a couple hours of sleep a day. So, I try and utilize the time I am up to be productive. I literally went on a cleaning spree the last week or so. I'm glad the baby takes what it needs from the prenatal vitamins. That's actually reassuring to me. I actually did wind up sleeping for like an hour today though. Just feel like it wasn't enough... hopefully I can get some sleep soon though.. haha.

I have insomnia on and off. Some days I can't fall asleep until late then wake up at 2/3am and I'm up for the day! Xx

As funny as this sounds I finally passed out around 5am, and woke up around 12:30pm.

Been up for like a half hour now. Wish I could've slept a little longer but I'll take it. Slept longer then I have been. So, that's pretty awesome to me.

This is my sleeping pattern at the moment.. going to sleep around 5/6 in the morning and waking up between 11:30/12 in afternoon. It is driving me absolutely bonkers! I've gone through so many box sets now and books. Last two weeks it's been going on for..

Completely normal hun! Xxx

That's how today was, passed out around 5 woke up around 12-12:30. I'm not complaining though as that's the most sleep I have gotten in the past few weeks. Even though I wish I could have slept longer. Haha.
