Nightfeeds Chat Thread

Just given in and given my 2 day old 50ml of aptimal top up milk! Feel really guilty but she ha been breast feeding for an hour and a half, screaming for more and 5 minutes after coming off screaming for more again! I need a little sleep and was getting so sore! Mw recommended it but still feel bad! X my milk has just started coming in tonight so hoping feeds through the night will be more successful xx

My milk didn't come in until day 3-4 and I've been "behind" demand until last few days. Don't sweat the tope ups in the meantime, this kept me sane :)

Well I'm on feed #3 tonight but had loads more sleep than yesterday, J is settled and feeding pretty efficiently

I'm on feed number 3.... And hubby is missing. I'm assuming he's in the spare room but it's never happened before!!

A few weeks ago we were down to 1 feed at night, what's happened :-(

Spin I hope things improved for you?? I think it's acceptable to go back to how things were in the newborn days. No one will judge you! :-) xxx

Hi everyone. Hope you're asleep at the moment.

Madmillie - I think you wrote something about your baby going down and making noises. William always used to do this and I used to pick him up and wind him but it invariably just woke up him up and unsettled him. The doctor advised me to leave him "to get on with it", which I did, and he doesn't really do it anymore now. I did wonder if he was learning to bring his own wind up or something?

Tigger- I'm assuming you're in the third leap? We've just come out of it. I have to say it's the only leap I've noticed and it's been really hard! Gave me mastitis; he was feeding for so long!

William had his bedtime feed at 8, so did 8-1.45am 2.20am-6.40 which follows last night (albeit the times are slightly later) so that's the first time in ages he's had two consistent nights therefore I'm thinking he's out of the leap with better sleep than before it? We've started putting him to bed earlier cos he gets so grumpy that it's just easier. Hoping he'll do another hour or so after this feed.

People have asked me what I'd like for Christmas and I've told them, boldly, that I'd like William to sleep through! Xxx

Still trying to get J off for the night :(
3.5hrs sleep seems a very long way away again...

We're in the post-feed swaddle cuddle phase. OH is snoring like a trooper and I keep getting a bleary-eyed cheeky wink from Vi just to see if I'm still here!! Going to wait a few minutes before I try to put her down.

Good luck tonight Fliss. Hope the Land of Nod isn't too far away for you.xxx

Think we had a wind issue... decamped to nursery rocking chair and few loud trumps and burps later she is finally calming down, it certainly can't be me singing badly to ed sheeran in a slightly crazed sleep deprived haze...

Ah, spoke to soon, we have hiccups..

I'm lay here in bed wondering why my oh is fast asleep, my dog is fast asleep and baby is fast asleep and I'm wide awake looking at horse for sale adverts!
he woke at 1 am for a feed was back down by 1.15 and snot sucker but he's got bad cough and I can't rest properly he's so bunged up I've got the calpol air plug in thing on but doesn't seem to be helping much

Going go the doctor tomorrow with him as I can't rest and he's not comfy :( he's also got thrush which doesn't help matters

Hope you weren't much longer after your last post Fliss. Violet wasn't 'to settling after her last feed do I had her on my chest for a bit. Must have fallen asleep though because next thing I realised, Chris was taking her off me and putting her in the pram. Not too sure when that was though. xxx

Pregnot - I got calpol saline spray and oblas oil for children. Few drops on a muslin in his crib, and a squirt of saline spray up the nose before a feed really helped us out !

My little monster is playing games. 1 feed last night! Up 1.50 - 3.15, then slept till 7. He wouldn't settle well so pulled him into bed with me for the final stretch. Woke up with one mahoosive boobie and a wet pj top! And because the milks so fast/lots of it, Jake just sicked on me a bit ! Nice :-/

We'll William keeps making his first feed later. First night 1.15am, then 1.45am and this morning 2.40am. (His last feed was 8pm). He then gets up for the day about 6 hours from the first feed (so now). Hoping he'll drop the night feed soon :/

But I'm annoyed! I've been up since 530 trying to get back to sleep because my husband (who sleeps through) got up early to go for a run before work. 2 hours I've lost!!! :( not fair. Moan!

Horrible night with unsettled baby until 4am, then hourly wake ups with fussing and comforting.
Arg! Just when I thought we'd cracked it!

LO was up every 25 minutes or so from about 11 till 5 despite having regular breastfeeds as well as 85 mil of formula ( I know that sounds a lot but she screamed blue myrder e very time I took the bottle away) think she had at least 3 lots of breast plus that bottle between 2 and 5 alone- this did however make her pass a poo which I knew she had been trying for and since 6 she has been sleeping an hour and 10 minutes before waking so I've had a small amount of sleep at least! Still an improvement on day 1 and 2 when she wouldn't let us out her in the cot at all bless her! (She is only 4 days old so I'm sure she will gradually become more settled- she sleeps soundly pretty much all day! Still love my little night owl :) x

Loopylou, you're doing well! I still can't get J to settle in her cot for more than an hour. She will go in the bouncer in the day, but I have given in and co-sleeping. Makes it so much easier to bf and get some sleep, dh in spare room for now but as he's back at work today that's prob for the best!!

Yep my little night owl spends her whole day feeding and sleeping ( sleeps in pram carrycot ) with no problems but come night time she is awake most of it and prefers to sleep on me! I fell asleep with her on the bed last night not through conscious choice lol! I'm not worried though as when she is awake she is alert, its just that she is only awake for about 10 minutes all day bless her! Took her for her first walk today and she missed it all haha! Aww you sound like you are doing really well too! To be honest I would love a spare room to put oh in- he cann sleep straight through her screaming ( god knows how) an he seems to have developed a habit of sleep talking and its driving me crazy! To be fair e may have already been a sleep talker I just didn't notice as was always asleep before lol! I let him sleep all night so that he can keep an eye on her an let me sleep in the day as she won't go to him when she is sad anyway- which I think he feels a bit down about- keep trying to reassure him that its only cause she can smell my milk and that she will soon want daddy cuddles too x

Farrah slept 8pm to 7.45 am with no feed. Woke up a few times but settled agaib. She did thiis before when she had a cold. Wonder if she getting another one.. would be nice for her to sleep through again

Still on the not settling at night wagon. Had an off day yesterday where I was clearly not making enough milk so had to top up. Maybe as so tired?
I did pump twice afrer daytime feeds and got a pathetic 20mls again. This was with the medela piump too. At least ut was more comfortable to use.

Constantstar that's great! Not the part about getting a cold though :-(

Were up for first feed. This is amazing, she's not needed us to intervene for 6H! She's woken a few times but settled herself back down, yay. The true test will be when I put her back down. She had jabs today too so that's brilliant!

Hi ladies... Well I didn't want to tell anyone as I was scared I would curse it, but last 3 nights M had slept through!! Needed a dummy insertion once, but not properly waking until 6/7am after going down just after 9pm. Anyway, 4th day and we're back to feeding at 3 ;-(. Ah well, nice while it lasted!! Xxx

Congratulations on your sleep through Clairexx. May there be many more! xxx

Been awake since feed at 4am. Flagging a bit now. Violet has been very snuffly with a bit of a runny nose. Going to go for second attempt at putting her down. Come on little lady. You need some sleep before 8am!!
