Nightfeeds Chat Thread

Well LO finally asleep after lots of crying- she wasn't hungry she ha just had an hour and a halfs feed and it was a different cry- only one problem I can't go to sleep as she is in the pram ( the cot just wasn't happening at the moment) and every time I stop rocking she wakes up! Have sent oh to bed for a bit so I'm just watching rubbish on tv! Not as good as sleep but at least my boobs are getting a short break and te neighbours won't hate us as much lol x

Me and my big mouth - she woke up lol! Had 3rd feed since 11 and now fast asleep on my lap for now! She is so cute though that mummy doesn't mind xx

Your bf aren't you Lou? They do say hormones are different so they feed more at night. Your doing amazing with 40 min feeds though - I don't think I could hack it !! I find my little one only settles when with someone at night but I'm too worried about doing it and something happening. Why are these babies so different at night bless them!!

Hope you manage some sleep - I've been pretty much awake since 11 and unless she sleeps on me doesn't look like resting x

Feel like im back in the early days of having a tiny newborn...aghhh. H went down at 11:30 and woke at 1am and 3.20. He didn't feed at 1, just needed cuddling back to sleep, really odd for him. I'm shattered. Hope you're all having better nights x

When they know the difference between night and day it'll be better ladies. Doesn't take too long and it just happens. Then the battle will be for then to sleep in the day again!

Crap night! Up every 2.5-3 hours. We had a crap well last week going through a leap then had a lovely bout of nights where he went 6 hours between his only night feed. I don't feel like he's ever going to sleep through. I'm fed up.

Hope there's some sleeping babies for you all soon, rubbish night out there by the sounds of it...
We've just managed 1-4 sleeping which I am really happy with, and breakthrough is she's had 2 sleeps in her cot!!! :)

Sleep what's that? Well she went to sleep for 15 mins at 2am and has been awake mainly crying since then! Really don't know what else to do! She's had about 4 breastfeeds, half a bottle of top up ( that was at 5am- desperate at that point lol) had 2 nappy changes, tried rocking in pram, have had lots of cuddles, she feels fine temperature wise, even tried putting radio on in case its too quiet- have also tried with lights on and off but still she won't settle! The only thing that's pacifys her is sucking on finger! Really tempted to buy her a dummy even though I despise them and was adamant if they did have one then it wouldn't be until at least 6 weeks agghhh

We're having a bad night. Monster woke up as soon as I put him down after his "short" feed and fed another 10-15 mins. Then woke an hour later at 3.15. And again at 6. He's been in my bed since 2!

MrsE is right - all of a sudden it clicks for them. And if your lucky, all of a sudden they sleep through...!!!

It's funny to see the trend on here - mums with older babies stop posted as their lo's drop feeds, the new mums are up alllll night and bored so posting more...!! I want to drop a feed soon :-(

I thought we had dropped feeds Kim!

As well as his sick issues (doctor gave us gaviscon) I really think he has a farting issue. It woke him up and he was writhing around in obvious pain and discomfort. He needs that colief stuff. Who knew babies had so many ailments?

I'm absolutely shattered. Nothing seems to be going right for him. He must be so frustrated at me :( he even took his dummy which he usually refuses. He tried to go back to sleep but his need to fart woke him up so many times. It's going to be a LONG day. Xxx

Loopylou hang in there as the early days of bf are so hard. They feed a lot at night as milk is richer then. I expect she misses you too as she's only so young and you're her world. Keep it up.

Hannah did feeds every 2 hours Monday night which is terrible for us but last night did much better with 11-4.45 then 5-7.45. Yay! X

How old is hannah now bex? Is she still not ready to go down a bit earlier?

Harrison has been very unsettled the last few days, not waking for feeds, just moaning for his dummy/blankey. Last night he went down at 7.30, then was up at 1, 2 & 3 for dummy then up at 5am for a feed. Don't mind so much as I can literally just lean over & put it back it but I'm gutted he is so reliant on it! God knows how we are ever going to take it away. & I don't feel like I'm getting the benefit of him going 10 or so hours without a feed as I'm having to wake up. Boo!

Anyway for those with new bubbbas it really does get better! Harrison was another baby who use to feed every 45 minutes, even with expressed milk top ups lol, and now I'm moaning about my 10 hours being broken lol.

Stay strong!

Thanks ladies nice to know it gets better. My mum took Emily at 4 as she's been up all night. Is it normal to settle at night even if been fed, winded etc (am doing bottles at night) I even offered boob and she didn't take it?

I'm hoping it does all click into place as not sure I can manage on zero sleep. She seems to settle again at 5/6 am!!

I've tried dummy too Sara but am loathe to give it as I know they can wake up a lot once it starts dropping out :)

Hope you all managed to get some sleep - fliss well done on the 1 til 4 :) x

Hope you have got some:nap: in Laura. Zero sleep is blooming awful.

I've got my mum here this week which is amazing, she's been like supergran. Going to be a shock next week when I'm on my own:shock:

J has put on 50g in 24hrs, best gain yet, so I think I am finally catching up with milk production. Mw has dc both if us today,

Haha 5:30 am is the start pf her day too I think- she will suddenly decide that its ok to sleep on her cot - waking up just once an hour until 11? What the difference is I have no idea! X

I managed to get a few hours fliss as mum had her. Like you I've no idea how I will manage on my own next week. I'm hoping for discharge today as midwife coming to weigh her later :) well done on the weight gain - that's fab news. Are you managing to avoid top ups

Lou - we need to get these babies body clocks sorted :) I could handle snatches of sleep but none is a killer. She'll be out for the count all day
X

I've taken to sleeping when she sleeps in the day as much as possible- she n

NormallY goes in the pram during the day but put her on cot this morning as oh is out so I went back to he'd and she's been asleep an hour and a half which just goes to show that it isn't the cot that's the issue! Oh well hopefully she will swap round soon- until then no guess ill be nocturnal although I'm still always tired in early hours as my body clock knows that its nighttime lol xx

LD, if she has got day and night back to front (which is sounds like she has), then hard as it is when you want to get the rest during the day, wake her for all her feeds, and be religious about it. She will then start to get in the habit of feeding up during the day, and starting to go longer stretches at night. And try and make a real distinction between night and day - calm and dark for night time, and during the day, go around your business as usual. x

Thanks Gemsy :) she is pretty good for feeds in day going 3 hours max but today I've tried to keep her awake slightly longer. Had a much better night so far (although the night is young ha ha) we defo have noise during the day (vacuum tv etc) and night is quiet but I have had a bedside light on to see what I'm doing - do you think that makes a difference? I've ordered a nightlight. Having days and nights mixed up is the only reason I can think she doesn't settle as she's soundo in the day so maybe had her quota of sleep.

Am defo trying to take your advice though xx

Hi ladies! It does take a few weeks for them to get night & day the right way round, but they will get there eventually. I found swaddling helped as it signalled bed time. It's amazing how much you can function on hardly any sleep but it does catch up with you in the end! You will all have nice settled babies in no time (and I'll still be here doing loads of nightfeeds probably lol) xx
