Anyone else get this? Our daughter is just over 2wks old and my OH and i take it in turns at night so we each get 5+hrs sleep in our bedroom. Phoebe currently has her crib in lounge so we can watch tv etc while caring for her at night. every night without fail within couple of hrs of going to bed start dreaming she is in the bed covers...i am patting them, digging inside the covers and generally checking everywhere for her until eventually i wake up enough to realise she's next door n fall asleep...this has now progressed to believing ive found her sitting up in bed and assuming the feeding position...last night also started panicking as 'fell asleep' after 'feeding' her and knew should take her next door to OH but then fell asleep exhausted....

funny thing is when get up at 4am to swap with OH and have up to an hr nap with her in my arms dont have any problems...ive spoken to midwives and researched it online n apparently 9/10 mums esp ftms get this. i would be interested to see how many PFers have/had this also and more importantly when did it stop as it is now affecting my quality of sleep...:nap:

I had this only a few nights I used to think my daughter was in the bed and that id fallen asleep with her on me. One night I started winding my husband thinking he was the baby and I tried to pick him up to put her back in her Moses basket!

I believe it was a lack of sleep that caused it, when I started sleeping better it stopped.

Hope you get some more sleep soon

LOL your post made me laugh, fortunately hubby isnt bearing the brunt of it lol...thing is before pregnancy have always had an overactive subconcious and frequently slep walked/talked so knew this could happen...luckily as was getting up so often during pregnancy seemed to sleep lighter and didnt move around much but now I do lol...

also the nightsweats r strange, within an hr or so of going to bed I wake up drenched in the chest area and back of neck but the other areas such as underarms legs etc r fine so not like a normal sweat and certainly not too hot so guessing its hormone related....

In the first few weeks I regularly woke up convinced my LO was in bed with me. I had to evict my beloved teddy bear from the bed for quite a long time as if I woke cuddling him I would panic that I was smothering my daughter. It was horrible but did stop after a while. Same with the night sweats. They are unpleasant but they will go away on their own. Having a baby is so glamorous!!

thanks Maud its nice to hear other ppl's stories....theyre just gettin annoyin now

I still get similar dreams and my daughter is nearly 15 months. :-) xx

I used to get this all the time! I always remember having dreams my next door neighbours were trying to pinch my baby?! It does get better, but my son could make the slightest noise and it would wake me at night. I don't think it was until we moved him into his own room around three months that I slept properly. Although then I'd wake up thinking the monitor had gone off and I'd slept through it!!!

Also night sweats are awful. We were going through so much bedding in the early days cos my sheets would be soaked in the morning!

yeah wasnt prepared for that lol, good job we have plenty to wash each day with a newborn as pjs are going in daily too atm! Not to mention generally during the day changing tops 3 times as well for same reason lol...

It's horrible cos even if I had a nap I'd sweat. I was going through more bedding and clothes than the baby at one point!!

I've had those thoughts on awakening too, the panic that baby is under the covers in bed with me! I find it happens more often if I am hugging a cuddly toy!

I never had that, but I did used to have nightmares about falling downstairs while holding my daughter. They've only just recently stopped, but although she's 3 (!) I think they continued because I had my son (who's now 17 months).

The sweats were horrific! No one tells you about all the stuff that comes afterwards!

Yes I had this a lot - some weird dreams awswell! Once I woke up and shot out of bed and started pulling clothes out of our wardrobe cos I thought baby was in there! I've ran round the house thinking someone had taken her! I've woke oh up telling him to get out of bed cos he's squished baby! Honestly I went a bit mental!

But that was probs when oh was about 4m to about 12m - I never get then any more!!

I had a few dreams in the early days thinking baby was in bed with me and was fumbling around the covers trying to find her and would wake in a panic! Would take a good few minutes to realise she was in moses basket next to bed

I actually forgot about those dreams now my little one is 13 months!

Omg I remember this. I actually did co-sleep with my son for awhile but when I stopped I kept waking up thinking he was in bed. Then when he was abit older i kept dreaming he was crawling around our bedroom. Sleep deprivation has a lot to answer for!

Yes I had this too the first couple of weeks, I dreamt that my little one was still n bed with me and the number of times I tried to cradle my husband up so that I could put him in the Moses basket was unreal. It wa quite scary at the time.

Yep, I had this when my son was a new born.

I would wake up with the duvet all bunched up and cradled in my arms!!

XX

Both my husband and I had this - the rare times both babies were asleep in the first few weeks, we used to wake each other up in horrified panic looking for a baby (or 2!) under the duvet. I remember how scary it was to wake up convinced you'd smothered a baby in the bed - horrible!

I think the night sweats are the water retained during pregnancy coming out?

I had this when my son started crawling and walking. I'd have dreams he'd gotten out of bed and either gone downstairs on his own or was wondering around our room!!
