I am a ftm and on Tuesday my doctor said that 36 weeks she would like to give me a date for induction due to baby's size and my health issues. She said about wanting to do a sweep at 38 weeks but I know more than likely it won't work. I am worried encase they try to induce me and I end up with an emergency section. Should I let them try the sweep and if they don't work then just go for a planned section?

Any advice would be great xx

Hi, you've got nothing to lose with having the sweep (although it didn't work for me) I was induced due to bleeding and I did end up with an emergency c section BUT I know people and there are plenty of people on here who are induced who don't require an emergency c section. The recovery from the c section is tough so I'd really consider if you want to opt for elective c section as when induced you may end up with normal birth anyway. Having a c section was my worst fear but to be honest it wasn't as bad as I'd expected.
X

I'm not sure what your health issues are, but it's worth speaking to your consultant or midwife about the induction. There's different types of inductions and so much of it depends on your circumstances whether they will intervene with a csection or not.

I did have a failed induction and emergency c-section with my first baby. Because my cervix was already dilated I wasn't given the pessary which is usually what is given first. Instead I was given a hormone drip and my waters were broken. My contractions were too strong on the drip and they had to stop it because it was causing my son to become distressed. I then failed to progress with out the drip.

I have a heart condition which I had full open and closed heart surgery. My consultant is saying she would like me to go in to natural labour but baby is following the 95th centile so they are getting concerned about the pressure that could be putting on my heart. But even with a spontaneous labour they want me to have an epi as soon as labour is established which I really don't want.

That's y I am swaying towards an elective section if the sweeps don't work or can't be done xx

I had a sweep this time at 39 weeks due to previous big baby and this baby measuring big. Had it on Thurs and my waters broke Sat had my little boy Monday early hours.
I also had open heart surgery at 2 years old. With my 1st I just had to go onto the birth suite to be monitored i wasn't offered a c section. And I did end up having a epi but I asked for it after hours of contractions and no progress. I'm not sure if your surgery was same as mine but they was happy for me to go into natural labour. Xx
