So yesterday I managed to get baby latched on using nipple shields and today I managed to do it without the shields so it's going very well. The thing is, for the last 2 weeks I have been expressing 6 times a day and getting almost a litre out a day and she has been drinking nearly all of that. Now she is on the boob she goes for ages between feeds and my boobs start to hurt because there is so much milk in them. I expressed some off after I fed her this morning and I'm going to have to do it again in a minute because it's getting so painful.

So what should I do? If I keep expressing will I continue to have this problem or will my milk slowly reduce to suit her needs?

Your right, if you continue to express then your body will keep producing that amount and take longer to settle down.

But don't go around in agony Hun.....engorgement is horrid.

I would probably hand express for comfort (just take enough off to relieve the engorgement). Then you should find your having to do it less often and express less off.

Sounds like your doing really well coming off the nipple shields :-) well done. X

Oooh tips for coming off the shields please?! I'd love to and was trying proper latching a lot but the last couple of days have flown and we've not had a chance. I hate to wake her up if she's sleeping and if she's desperate for a feed she gets so agitated when she can't latch!
How did you do it? X

Not Savoy? I thought it was meant to be Savoy? You're meant to prick with a fork, there's supposed to be enzymes or something that help?! It worked for me. That and gel pads you put in the fridge.
