As some of you may know,I was due to be induced on Friday 19th May,10 days over.
I got to the hospital at around 5.30 pm,and they let me settle in,and waited for visiting to finish at 8pm before they gave me the first prostin.
I was a bit nervous,as I have never been in hospital before, and they chucked Dave out at 8,but when they examined me,they said I was 2cm dilated, and my cervix was nice and soft, and that I could possibly have my waters broke instead. At around 1am I started to have contraction type pains every 5 minutes - I phoned Dave and told him to be prepared for the phonecall,I really thought "this is it!"However,by 5am the pains had stopped.

The midwife broke my waters at around 4.45pm,and my word they went with a gush!Because I had to have constant monitoring,I was unable to use my TENs machine,I had a couple of puffs of the gas and air,but I threw up,so I left it.My contractions came on so quick,I could not believe it.Then his heart rate dropped,so another midwife was called in,I was told to lie on my side and it picked back up,so everything was back to normal. When she examined me I was 9cm dilated,so I knew that the urge to push wouldn't be too far off,I think I started pushing between 7.45 and 8pm.
I was doing so well, and was really proud of myself for not using any pain relief, the midwife said she could see his head so called for another midwife just to assist with the final part of the delivery, and that is when everything was turned on its head - all of a sudden, the panic button was pushed, the doors flung open and pushing past this midwife and student midwife who had been called to assist were consultants, doctors and everything.I had my legs flung up in the stirrups,

It was so strange going from what seemed to be a perfect birth, going as we planned(sort of)to what seemed like a full on emergency. The only things that went as we had planned was that I had no pain relief, and I got to take a good look at my placenta!
We didn't get to leave the hospital until the Tuesday,as Finn had lots of tiny yellow spots on him when he was born all over his body, just like teenage acne,so we had to wait for results of tests which were clear before they could discharge him.
We are now nearly settled into some sort of routine 12 days on,I am breastfeeding, and he is a greedy baby, just like his Mom!!He wakes to feed and he wakes to be changed,he is a golden boy!!Wouldn't it be good if it stayed that way!!!
I will try and post some piccies,I'm going to see how you do it now, while Finn is asleep........
