My birth story-
Well, they tell you to write a 'wishlist' of how you want your labour to go...if I was to have written a list of how I didn't want mine to go, it would have been more like the real thing! That said, this isn't a horror birth story, and the end result is my gorgeous girl, happy beside me.
I was due to be induce 2.30pm on Thursday 17th, at 41 + 5. I was called in early, and gratefully got to the hospital at 11am, as the snow was predicted very badly for Friday. The first prostin pessary was inserted at 12.00n but the midwife felt it would take 2 doses, as my cervix was unfavourable, and only 1cm dilated. She was right- nothing happened! Next pessary was put in aat 8pm, and I woke at 3am, with slight period pain. They had very kindly let hubby stay with me in the induction suite, because of the weather, which was lucky, as by 4.30am, I was in established labour, and contractions were coming thick and fast.
By 8am, I was in the labour room. I was struggling with the pain, as missy had moved herself back to back again, so I was feeling every pain in my lower back. I was only getting about a minute inbetween each contraction, but with my friends gas and air, was managing to doze inbetween, somehow!
My waters were broken at 10.30, and were full of thick meconium, so I suddenly became a high risk patient.
At 11am, I had an epidural- I was struggling so much, by this time, partly because the pain was all in my back, and I was panicking about baby and the meconium, and the fact hwe heart rate was dropping when I was contracting. It took four attempts for them to get the cannulas in, as my veins weren't doing well by then, but I was a. Zombie on gas and air and pain, so didn't realise. Hubby said there was blood everywhere!
I felt so much better on the epidural, and started to feel with it, and more in control. I took the opportunity to sleep, to summon some energy, and started to push at 4pm. By 5, it was clear that Molly's head was facing the wrong way, and that I would struggle, so I was taken to theatre for a forceps delivery/ c-section, if all else failed. With two big pushes, and help from the forceps, my girlie was here- all 8lbs 14 of her!
I wasn't really aware of what was going on, as I was enjoying cuddles, but I remained in theatre for quite a while, but hubby told me a after. That it was a bit of a blood bath- apparently there was blood everywhere, and it turned out I had lost over a litre. I was shaking like mad, and the anaesthetist kept asking if I was okay, as my pulse was racing, and my BP had dropped a lot. I had a lot of stitching, and there was lots of talk of transfusions etc. However, the theatre staff were so good. I didn't even realise.
I was back in a private room by 8pm. Unfortunately, Molly became poorly overnight, and was taken to neonatal about 6am, after bringing up some nasty bile. Lots of tubes, cannulas, scans and tests later, she was finally brought back to me on the ward at 10pm last night. She is absolutely fine, they were just concerned because of the meconium.
I am on some high strength iron, so to avoid a trnsfusion, and waiting to hear when to go home. We are doing okay with breastfeeding, but yesterdays events have probably put us off course a little.
So there we go- I have already forgotten anyy fo the bad stuff, and was just so grateful to have my little one here safely, that I really didn't care what they were doing to me.
