I thought they didn't come to your house until after the baby was born.
I've never known anyone have a visit before the baby. Did anyone else have a home visit?
I'm quite annoyed tbh. :/ x

Hey PB, think someone mentioned this in our thread a few months ago and I said I'd never heard of it. Well when my HV came for one of the developmental checks on my other two she explained it's a new thing they've started. It's basically so they can introduce themselves to you so that when they arrive after the birth you know their face and don't feel like this stranger is coming in to check up on you so much. It's not for them to come check your house or what you have for baby or anything like that. It's just for a chat. Mine is coming in a few weeks even though she already knows me which I thought was a bit pointless but don't mind x

I haven't luckily! My house is like a building site ATM, i would have been irritated too..

Although I didn't, a colleague at work did have a visit at around 36 weeks and she only lives in the neighbouring town so it must vary a lot as to protocol

xx

Had my health visitor visit yesterday. Didn't have that last time. It's just to have a chat and introduce themselves. Find out what your plans are regarding feeding and labour and just to see how you're feeling about it in general. Wouldn't be too worried :)

But she's the midwife I've been seeing all the way through at the gp surgery which is a 10 min walk.. she's coming to talk about my birth plan apparently :/ x

My maternity notes say something about a Health care visit around that time on the list of appointments but doesn't specify what it means ...

My midwife visited me at home from 34 weeks when i had my son tbh it was much easier as it ment i didnt have to got down to the childrens center and sit on uncomfortable chairs.
Would prefere to have that this time.

Someone I know who is due in 2 weeks and lives literally 5 mins away in the same city/area has had a HV but I've never had it mentioned to me! I'm hoping not tbh x

Mine is coming at 35 weeks, but I'm planning a homebirth so she said it's to check where everything is did that :)
I wouldn't worry, I'm sure they aren't coming to judge anything, mine said she wouldn't be bothered if we were in PJs! xxx

I'd misread this PB. Never heard of midwife coming before birth only HV. Seems pointless to me as my experience has been that I've had about 8 visits from midwife post birth (breastfeeding so baby loses lots of weight and they come constantly to check up on it) and almost every time it was a different midwife so don't see why they would make a pre birth visit x

Yep I had two home visits from mw in both previous pregnancies - one at 10 weeks and one at 34ish weeks. My HV didn't come out with either pregnancy, although with DS1 it hadn't been rolled out yet. They had just rolled it out with DS2 and my HV gave me the option as we'd already met.

This time I've had no visits from either, but in the Midlands at least it seems to be a common practice for mw to come out and visit and go through birth plans.

Thanks ladies.
Just thought it was strange! Just gonna be on edge when she comes... my dogs are hyper when seeing someone new so kinda stressed about that to. I'll lock them in the garden but I have French doors into the living room so they'll still be able to see in ughhh. Just won't relax while she's here :/ x

I'm the same, hate it when people come round as I'm forever moving the cats away. I'm really paranoid about guests being judgemental too, I have a really judgemental family and I feel like I'm looking around to see what I've missed

I had several home visits from the midwife, for me it was convenient and unlike going to the hospital I don't have to pay to park! You can only see them at the gp once a fortnight, so all other visits have to be hospital or home.

We were having our house replumbed and she had to step over all the mess each time and never said anything so I really wouldn't worry from that point of view either!

My midwife has offered to do home visits for all of my appointments so maybe it is up to the midwife as to what she offers. I have HG though and vomitted about 20 times during my first meeting with her so it's probably because of that. I'm only in tri 2 but lurking in the tri 3 thread just to see what is to come! Hope you tri 3 women don't mind
