I don't have a middle name and even though I wanted one as a child, I can't see much point in them now. I think they are useful if you want to name the child after a relative but not directly, but otherwise, I think there isn't much point in having them. What are your thoughts?

mine both have middle names and i use them all the time and when i write cards to people i always write both names

im the same i dont know y but for me i didnt even think of not having a middle name

Middle names are the norm in my family and OH so we automatically selected middle names too - don't get used on daily basis, but nice to have, i know a few people who have chosen to be known by their middle name instead of their christian name.

I think middle names are a nice way of adding more to your childs identity and a tribute to family/friend members. I have middle names for my girls and this one will have one too. My mom didnt have one for my brothers which she now deeply regrets but she had them for me and my sister

My boys both have middle names but if this one is a boy he will not have a middle name, he will be called after his father. (familt tradition on his side
If its a girl I choose... and i will use a middle name too, for the same reasons claire81 gave. :) I also have a middle name

Yvonne Paula, and i use it for Certificates and signing important forms etc. I like it...

Seren doesn't have a middle name, I am like you, don't see the point.

dont see a point in middle name reason my 2 have one is because i liked alot of names :)
my brother has 2 middle names and his comunion name

the reason im glad i have a middle name is me mum and dad are all D.
Dionne denise david so when the mail comes through as Ms me and mum fight over it

my middle name is Leigh. not very keen

seems Dionne is a unisex name and so is leigh.

We could only think of two names and they wouldn't have gone together :D

my middle name is marie i think my name sound old now lol

I have chosen jakobs middles names because Alan after daddy (it runs in the family all the men are alan, or have alan as a middle name) and Harry after my beloved grandad :)

personally i would hate not to have one as my family call me samantha jane which is cute i would never consider not having one for my kids but thats just me :)

My mother told me it was too much effort to think of a middle name for me and I always feel like she couldn't be bothered..which generally she couldn't so mine will definately have one

I like middle names (but I dont like mine that much haha) I think like others have said its a nice way to pay tribute to another family member dead or alive or have another name if you cannot decide on just one.

However, if you cant think of a middle name I dont think you should stress in finding one its not the be all and the end all

i tend to thik that a middle name should only be given if its got a point. So many people think they HAVE to give their child a middle name so haphazardly stick in John, anne, louise or jayne for example.
My middle name is anne and when i asked my mother WHY!!!! she said coz i wanted you to have a middle name. I fooking hate it! :x

All my family have middle names, as does OH's family, our child will have one too. Mine is "Elizabeth" after the Queen as I was born on the silver jubilee. I like middle names and think they are a good thing, but I dont really know why, I dont even get called my full first name (Joanne).
If we have a boy his middle name will be Jon, his dads name.
Jo

Its a family tradition (and quite a popular one accross the board I gather!) to have namesakes as middle names - both my girls have middle names of people who are very special to me, and if we have a son he will have the middle name of my childhood bestfriend who died of lukemia when we were 14. If we have a girl, then it will be my partners choice.

My partner actually is one of the people who goes by his middle name instead of his first name, and I couldnt imagine calling him by his real first name!

We all have middle names in my family so I wanted Aaron to have a middle name so we picked James. Mine is Marie, I swear everyone had Marie as a middle name when I was in school!

I like middle names personally, you can name the baby after someone who is important to you, which people love.
Another handy reason could be if the baby is to have a surname that is fairly common then it may be useful later on if they end up at school or work with someone with the same name (we have 2 Amy Smith's where I work, so we use one of their middle names so we know which one is which on paper work and stuff)
Saying that though I dont have a clue what to have for my babys middle name (I choose girls name OH chooses if it's a boy) I'm sure something will come up.

I have chosen middle names for bith boy and girl as a tribute to loved ones:

Girl: Ruby Edith McCoy-both mine and OH nans were called Edith so in memory of them both

Boy :Arran David McCoy-David in memory of a dear friend of mine who passed away last year

I have a middle name-Ann same as my mums and OH has two-his grandad and his dads names

I like middle names, I love asking people what their middle names are!! Am I just weird? xx
