Can any one tell me if its really wrong to boil the water for a bottle of formula in the microwave??
My kettle is really limescaley, even when cleaned and i dont like the thought of making a bottle for a baby with that water. I thought it would be ok to microwave it....but OH disagrees, he's usually right!!!

i wouldnt think the water would get hot anough??

my kettle broke once so i boiled water in pan on the cooker.

i also watched on "how clean is your house"
if you have bad limescale in your kettle put lots of viniger in and boil it and leave it over night!

Thanks Dionne ill try that Kim and Aggie tip
When i take the bottle out of the microwave the water is really bubbling, so im guessing its boiled??

i wouldn't have thought it would be a problem boiling water in the microwave - as you say it does come out bubbling hot! the reason they say don't heat bottles or baby food in the microwave is because it can get heated unevenly and hot spots can scald your baby. but as water for bottles will get cooled down anyway i can't see a problem really...

and think about the microwave sterilisers, they must come up to a high enough temp to properly sterilise the equipment.

i've considered it myself actually, as my kettle is in desperate need of descaling too...

well, I use microwave all the time, for every single feed
Of course, i do it differently, because I know it's allright, even though the HV is totally against what I am doing! I don't give a d*** anymore!
I buy volvic or evian mineral water so I don't need to boil it, and I warm it up in the microwave. There is no reason the water would be unevenly warm inside the feeder because I shake it very well (well, not shake it but roll it), and there's NEVER been a problem!
That's what mothers do in France, my cousin works in a maternity ward, and that's what she's done for her 2 kids, so I just do it, whatever the HV can think! :shakehead:

I don't want to use my kettle for the same reason, and I don't see any reason why you could not boil the water in the microwave!

melhoney just letting you know the HV told me not to use mineral water becuase they can not digest the minerals, but that spring water is fine. sorry I know we do things our own way but I just thought Id let you know.

Thanks lauz,

Yea i know that, that's why it can only be volvic or evian, not any other water.
Maheen's feed have been made with these since day 2, so I guess she can digest them well, Lol! :) and she has been putting on weight beautifully till now.
But you are right, not every bottled water is fine to use.
There is another brand as well in France, but I can't find it here, so it's just down to these two!

I should have said spring water, but never really knew the difference between minral and spring water!!

lol thats ok. I dont really understand it becuase if they cant digest them surely they would just pass them out and I dont see the problem? but Im no doctor lol.

Maybe they would affect the kidneys?

I have been told not to heat bottles in the microwave but do anyway, Thet are meant to heat unevenly and leave 'hot spots' hence they could burn the baby, but then waht kind of wallie would heat the bottle and not roll or shake it after anyway!??

Plus when you babies screaming to high heaven at 3am do you really want to wait for 5 mins to boil the kettle then another 2 mins to heat it in the boiled water, nope just nuke it for 30 seconds and your done ! LOL! :D

Hadn't thought of using bottled water...... good idea!

The vinegar thing really works for the kettle, I always do that and the limescale gets loads better :D

just as info: for 180ml of water I put it in the microwave for 20secs. and then, I roll the feeder as it's better than shaking, and I test it on my wrist anyway...I think everyone does this, no?
