Done some research online and seems best treatment for me may be metformin - any experiences anyone?? X

seeing gp on saturday morning hopefully she will prescribe metformin and next cycle we can start it x

I know its used in infertility treatment but is more effective in women with high BMI. I was put on it for 3 months but it didnt do anything for me at all, but then I always had normal BMI.

I know that some doctors test for glucose intolerance but nowadays I think they prescribe metformin without it, it more of - lets try and see what works. I have heard success stories though - helped women to start ovulating.

This is something my GP discussed with me with regard to ovarian cysts but I felt that my pill was enough for the time being as I wasn't ttc at the time.

Now, I'm off my pill and according to my OPKs I ov'd fine this month so, we'll see.

Good luck though hun

Lxx

no not been tested for glucose intolerance i dont think - had a random glucose sent on my cycle day 3 bloods x

I had it. Bmi at the time was 23 ish I think x

No I had ovarian drilling first and when they thought my cycles were starting to slip I got prescribed metformin. I never got into it because I found out I was pregnant shortly after (down to drilling not
Metformin) but the metformin comes
Highly recommended :)

ok well thank you for the info- thats all i can do is wait to see what she says on sat x

I can recommend the drilling Defo but I think it was my first stage treatment cos I hadn't had a period for nearly a year (11 months) they don't normally like to be that drastic but u could ask? My consultant had great faith in metformin for regulating ovulation :)

i do have periods but long ish cycles 38-42 days, and apparently im ovulating but have loads of immature follicles in my ovaries x

I don't have any personal experience but a very good friend of mine was prescribed it - she has PCOS and was having really long cycles. She'd been on it for a few months and had an appointment booked last September (I think) with her specialist to see how things were going but didn't need it because she was pregnant :) Just had a gorgeous little boy 5 weeks ago. Hope everything goes well on saturday x

I got diagnosed with Pcos in nov last year. No period for 7 months. Bloods and scan confirmed. Got put on metformin which I started taking in 1st jan this year. Be warned, it does give you a bad tummy which is normal. Luckily I didn't suffer too bad. But with metformin and changing diet/exercise I lost a stone and a half. Periods returned in Feb. Started trying in May and fell pregnant straight away. Guessing we were extremely lucky but it definitely worked for me!

Normally you start on one a day. Then the week after you increase it to two and by the third week you go up to three which is max dose. Each time I increased, I had bad tummy but after a couple of days it settled.

Hope this helps?

Good luck DW!!! hope it helps you get your :bfp: I'll keep my fingers crossed for you :)

:dust::dust::dust:

Thanx for the info lulabell x the diarrhoea does worry me as I've got inflammatory bowel as it is x but willing to try anythin to get me closer to bfp x

Thanx to everyone great info x

Hey DW!!
I am an insulin dependant diabetic and am also taking metformin for insulin sensitivity!! I have a high BMI too, so hoping it wll help me loose weight!!
I haven't gotten pg yet but I am told it can really help, especially those with PCOS!!

One thing i will say though, it does play havoc with your stomach. Everyone is different though and you may be fine, but I get awful pains in my stomach followed by explosive diarrhea (?? can't spell it!!).
I have just increased to the max dose and this week has been difficult. Was nearly late for an interview this mornin as I was stuck to the toilet..... On a positive note though, It goes as quickly as it comes and once your body gets used to the drug, you should be fine.

I say go for it hun - If it helps get you pg, then a slightly upset stomach now and again will be soooo worth it.

xxx

thanx steph + Emma xx :thanks:

Emma - how long have you been on metformin for?? hope the interview went well FX x x

totally agree if it gets me that all important bfp then i will give anything ago even dodgy guts too!!:eh:

The one thing I didn't get told was that as soon as you know you are pregnant, stop taking the metformin. Unless advised otherwise.
