ok,

I am new , and I have one child who is 9 in 2 months.

I had completely given up all hope after turning 40 last year, and on May 23rd after nearly 9 years of heart ache and emotional roller coaster . I did a test knowing full well I had just wasted another £8 to find I got 2 stripes.

I am shocked.

now I am worried sick ,

I am type 2 and diagnose for 3 years but on prescribed 500mg last year as previously controlled with diet but Drs said it is rising so I need to go on metformin.
Now I am shocking at taking any medicines I forget they just are not in my routine, and so I tried really hard and jan / feb March I took them reasonably well and since hardly at all, I do need to go back and see them.

my big worry now is should i have taken them. just read a forum where they talked about mc's and believe me after 9 years i dont want to run any risks

drs appointment on tuesday, so we'll see then ...

why is everything so complicated..?

I have heard the metformin can actually help PREVENT miscarriage in the first 12 weeks. I am a member of a PCOS forum, and a lot of use/used metformin. Most of the woman on there take it for the 12 weeks, then stop.

although that is to treat PCOS, and not actual diabetes, so might be different. Best to speak to your Doc.

and congrats on getting pregnant! x

Hiya :)

Do you not take Folic acid already? You can do one metformin tablet then too.

Then for your meals just keep the metformin in view wherever you get your food from.

So like for breakfast, maybe some next to the toaster? Or for lunch some in your lunchbox? Or for dinner some next to the salt?

Just where ever you'll see it.

Maybe if you put it next to your toothbrush that'll be your morning and evening dosage sorted.

Just keep it in view. If the doctor says you should be taking it then you really need to ensure that you do xx

If you need to be on it hun then take it. It's not bad. I'm still taking mine as I'm boderline diabetic due to my PCOS ;)

Thank you, I have the courage to take one and have just got a drink and a tablet..)

I started taking Folic acid on thursday, as soon as I knew I was pg.

I used to take it all the time but after the first 3 years I started to wonder if it was okay to just keep taking it, as it turned out to take 9 years i think I did the right thing at the time.

just holding my breath now till i get everything checked out, feeling well and truely caught off guard, foolish happy hopefull and excited. I suppose that is about right for early pg.....?

xxxx Thanks again

Yup it's normal to be scared and happy and worried at the same time. At least that's how I feel lol.

Because I was Type 2 when I started Trying to conceive, I went and saw a diabetes specialist gynecologist. Apparently as I was Type 2 I needed a higher dose than normal of Folic Acid (am on 5mg) and obviously would need my blood sugars monitored carefully, with the likelihood off needing Insulin quite soon (maybe later for you as I am on a much higher metformin dose).

I saw the GP the day I got my BFP, he carefully looked at each medication I was on, and has happily left me on my Metformin until the consultant sees me and assesses what's going to happen then.

Your safe on Metformin, but make sure you tell your GP and Midwife that you are type 2 as you will need extra support.

Don't worry and good luck x

HI just an update and your all right to tell me to keep on with it. Despite the paper thing in the box saying do not take when pregnant.

I am still on 2 a day on drs approval and my midwifes happy, I also will have to have the extra support at the diabetes clinic.

You guys know your stuff. :0)

THANK YOU
x

Glad everythings sorted and you'll be well monitered :)

Just wanted to say congratulations on your pregnancy! how exicitng, and I have a 9 year gap between my number 3 child and my number 4 child, and it's a really nice gap actually..... the older one can be a real part of the pregnancy, see the 20 week scan and enjoy it, and help with baby afterwards, if they were tiny, they would not remember....
