I'm just wondering if anyone who's babies miss the cut off date is going to get the jab privately. I have always worried about this as every mother does I'm sure and am going to get it done privately. Just wondering if anyone else was and the route they are taking ie private doctor or gp with a private prescription xxx

No we haven't , I am on the fence and have not jabbed the others yet. Meningitis B however still had a relatively high death rate in the last 5 years around 500+ opposed to the single measles death on annual figures. meningitis in general is very benign so considering i generally do not support jabbing this is one i would do. My OH doesnt think its necessary as "its not advised by drs" ignoring the fact the nhs just doesnt fund it for us but that doesnt mean its not advised! I would if you financially can.

I'm tempted to get Oscar the jab for this, I would obviously look into it but I know how utterly terrible meningitis can be x

I've just been to the doctors and been told that the NHS fund it for all babies born after March 2015 but the nurse said she has done a 2 year old at another surgery in Sussex. Some gp surgeries have decided to fund it themselves from their budget for children over 1 till different ages she said some up to 2 but she knows one doing all preschool children. Our surgery are undecided yet so I have to call back in a couple of weeks. It's £100 a jab privately which I have said I will pay for but she advised waiting till they decide as he is only just over a year xxx

As far as I know they are looking at vaccinating older children over the next few months/years but don't quote me on that. I'm sure under 2 vaccines are being introduced in the next few months.

We did ours privately as I knew she would be too old to ever get it on the nhs x

That's what I'm thinking. Nurse told me £100 per jab. I figure with how serious it is I'm not taking no risks just in case. I happily spent £300 on a car seat just in case so no different really xxx

Ours were 125 each and her last isn't until next year now. I don't mind either as its a serious thing to catch and I can't put a price on my little girls health. I know we have the luxury we could afford it and it's not always that easy. It should be available for everyone really x

Can they have this at any age? My daughter is 2.8 I would like to pay for this x

Unless my GP offer it to everyone (fingers crossed) I'll be getting it privately for both mine. When you look at the cost it makes you appreciate the availability of the usual vaccines even more!

Baby2sky, you can be any age to have it done privately I believe.x

Yes I think it's any age - the age depends on how many doses are needed and the spacing of them. My little girl is 22 months now and needed 3. The first 2 a month apart and the third a year later

Yeah any age I was told. It's not right only new babies and babies born after March are getting it on the NHS. But it's good that some gp are footing the bill for others where they don't agree xxx

I just called my surgery and they weren't sure but booked both my girls in anyway. Apparently if the nurse will give it then she will but the receptionist seemed to suggest she would, so fingers crossed! Booked in for the 30th so will let you know if we get it.x

Just wanted to say I had my daughter done last year privately and she just had her booster and Dr did it on nhs for me even tho she wasn't in the programme def worth checking with ur gp first. Think this jab is so worth while my friends daughter died from meningitis b so was a no brainer xx

I've had my youngest done. I was told that the cut off was May and he was only just getting it with being born on the First.

I'm undecided about having my eldest son done yet. He will be having his next lot of jabs at 3 in March so I may hold fire to see if it is included in them by then.

Any one can have any jab privately at any age. My sisters both work in the NHS so had to have all their jabs done (yes we did have a parent who didn't agree with vaccines!)
