I've never been pregnant before so am completely clueless, as is my boss!!! I have saved 3 weeks annual holiday to take prior to my mat leave. I am due to finish work for those 3 weeks on 14th sept and baby due on 6th oct.
hr said I can't just say I want my mat pay to begin on expected due date it has to be before???? I thought I could!!
How the flippin heck does it work?? Xx

I asked for my mat pay to start the week baby was due x

I Have asked for it to start on the due date but he says no. I don't understand why! I've got 3 weeks hol to take which would take me to 5th oct and baby due on 6th??? Xx

hr are useless and have just completely confused me :( xx

I'd ask them to tell me exact dates in writing for when you can take your 3 weeks of annual leave and if the issue is you have to work between hols and mat leave how many days you have to work after it before starting mat leave if they are saying you can't run them into each other. Seems very strange though I'm not sure what deifference it makes for them x

I would think that was fine?

I dont see what there issue is really.

The holiday would be payed as normal wages and then when thats up it would just go onto your maternity pay,

That's what I thought. Going to call again tomorrow xx

Definately also have a look on the direct.gov website. I found it helped me loads with maternity leave questions.

hope everything works out ok!

Hi,

I work for the council, and our policy states that u can finish work so many weeks before your due date, but the 4 wks before your due date HAS to be taken as mat leave and cannot be taken as annual leave. Don't ask me why!! Seems silly to me!

xx

I was only entitled to SMP so if you have a different maternity pay scheme things may be different for you but I was able to take mat leave from the EDD but not a day after. It seems ridiculous when they are days you are entitled to anyway but this is how it worked for me - the rest of my owed holidays I tagged on to the end of my maternity leave. It's all a bit confusing, good luck :)
