Some of you may know that I've been struggling with a very unsettled baby.

Toby has finally been diagnosed with lactose intolerance by the doctors after screaming for what feels like 24/7 for the last 5 weeks.

He's been prescribed a new formula and has had two feeds from it and I can honestly say I have a completely different baby.

I was really struggling with knowing what to do and felt like I was constantly failing him as a mother as nothing I did seemed to ease his discomfort nor could I stop the crying until he literally cried himself to sleep and even then He'd only stay asleep for a maximum of half an hour then would wake shrieking in pain. Poor little boy. I used to dread him waking up as I knew it would start all over again. Each morning both Toby and I would be in tears.

I'm hoping it will stay this way but he's so much calmer, has slept and feeds well plus I haven't had the explosive frothy green watery pooey nappies that I usually have today. I'm now looking forward to him waking and enjoy being a Mummy.
Xx

It must be such a relief! I'm a bit confused.com with my son he seems to react to some things dairy but not others for example margarine but not butter. Did they do a test for it or just go by what you said?

I went to the Drs a couple of weeks ago and we went through a process of elimination, he was really thorough and we tried infant gaviscon, colief, reduced lactose formula, he want to see me breast feed Toby and look at a dirty nappy (brave man). I think because lactose intolerance means a change in diet he wanted to rule out other things such a colic first.

He suggested testing of my milk also but decided to prescribe the new formula instead as he said he felt sure that the new formula would work and it has, I've literally cried in relief
Xx

Bless you sweetie, you have been through so much already. Just remember how amazingly well you are doing.

Hopefully Toby will now go from strength to strength and be a happy little chap!

So pleased you have a resolution.

Lots of love and hugs xx

Oh my goodness, what a rough time you have had! So please you can finally enjoy being a mummy xx

So pleased for you hun! We've had a breakthrough too. Took Mia to a and e tonight as she started to be constantly sick and she has acid reflux so we have medication for that now so I'm hoping and praying it will stop her pain and I can get some sleep too!
As you know I've felt exactly like you and have been in tears daily so it's such a relief to have some answers!
Keep me posted how you get on xx

That's really great news hun. My friend went through the same thing with her little girl - she finally put her on lactose free formula and it was like she had a different baby!! She was so much happier - and it lasted!!! She's now a very pleasant 6 month old little lady :D

Big hugs, sweetie. You've been so brave so far and I'm so glad that finally something seems to be working. You must be exhausted. Fingers crossed that it lasts and that you can start enjoying him more now.:hugs::love: xxx

Thanks everyone. I got a total of 5 hrs sleep last night. I feel soooo much better, before I'd be lucky to get 2!

He smiled at me this morning from his crib, I started sobbing all over again :)

My beautiful boy xxx
