Hi ladies,

I have been really lucky in my pregnancy in that i havent had sickeness etc and I thought I had escaped SPD.

Unfortunatley though over the past 2 weeks, i feel like i have been kicked really hard between the legs. This has got progressively worse and today I can hardly walk and i tried to put my trousers on this morning and nearly collapsed with the pain that shot through my pelvic area. (Sorry if that sounds melodramatic but its true!) I havent been sleeping the past couple of nights cos everytime I move it really hurts and the pain extends through my right hip and down my leg (I had probs with my hip when i was young - the hip bone didnt fit in the socket properly and im wandering now if the pressure of the extra weight hasd caused it to pop out again).
I cant imagine having another 3 or 4 weeks of this pain. Again Im aware that a lot of you have had SPD right through the pregnancy so I probably sound like a big wuss but Im really struggling!
I dont really know what to do, whether I should just get on with it or if I should contact the hospital. I feel a bit reluctant to contact the midwife at the hospital cos when I went to see them the other day they were really unhelpful and just told me to take paracetemol (which doesnt touch the pain) and make a physio appointment which when I called them didnt have an appointment til the week Im due to have the baby so it seemed a bit pointless!
What should I do?

Poor you, you should definately get some help. I have a pre-existing hip problem and hypermobility in the joint too which causes it to pop out too, I was referred to a physio at the beginning of pregnancy and they advised me on ways to alleviate the pain and ways of sleeping. I would definately get some help with this as having physio has certainly helped me. If you are having problems with the hip popping out have you tried a sacroilliac belt like this:

http://www.physiosupplies.com/acatalog/ ... _Belt.html

it stablolises the hip joints and holds everything together. I find it fantastic and used one before pregnancy too.

You should def seek help though before you do any long term damage to the joint or end up with sciatica if the joint pops out.

   Sounds really painful!

I would give your midwife a call in case she can get you a physio appointment sooner seeing as you're in so much pain. I had spd in the last few weeks of my first pregnancy and I had physio once a week for the last 2 or 3 weeks, I found it really helped

Get an appointment with your docs hun, they maybe able to get you in with a physio quickly.

It sounds like my SPD symptoms, i cant stand on one leg to put on/take off trousers etc. Have to sit down to put my clothes on and take them off.

Your not being a wuss at all SPD is bloody painful and constant in some cases.

Hey chick, sorry ur suffering :( I can defo sympathise with you. Go see ur GP and explain the situation and im sure he/she will be able to get you an emergency physio appointment maybe?

The support belts help some people, I to be honest didnt find it any use at all but I would say its worth a try if it gives u some relief. I took co-codamol for mine but I only took it when really desperate as codine can make baby ratty apparantly and i didnt wanna risk that.

Hope your feeling better soon hun

Don't really have any advice other than speak to your midwife again, if you are in severe pain she should be able to maybe push for an earlier appointment or something :?

You don't sound melodramatic at all, when you are in pain, you are in pain, it doesn't matter whether it has been for 5 months or 5 days. Hope you get something sorted and this eases for you

I hoe you are able to get some help soon! You certainly don't sound like a wuss, poor you

thanks for all your advise and kind words ladies. I will call my GP in the morning. xx

At the early antenatal class with the physiotherapist she told us where to look online for excellent leaflets for advice about things. Here's the one on SPD (Or Pelvic Girdle Pain as this is calling it - it's the same thing according to this) http://www.acpwh.org.uk/docs/ACPWH-PGP_Pat.pdf
I'm off work with this today. It's not fun :( I hope you feel better soon!
