So went out for lunch today with a friend and had Tomos in his car seat in the pram. So I took him out of the seat and took off his pram suit, and he just sat in the seat while I had my lunch. Then took him out to feed him etc, put his pram suit back on him and placed him in the car seat with his blanket on top to keep him warm whilst I headed off to the loo.

Then we left the restaurant and went round a few shops, and then I drove home. When I got home I went to take Tomos out of the car seat and as I took off the blanket to my horror I noticed that I had not strapped him in and that I'd driven home with him in the car not strapped into his car seat. OMG I'm so glad that we didn't have an accident, or anything as I could have never forgiven myself, and I darent tell OH.

Just needed to tell someone and hopefully no one else if so stupid as to not check when putting the seat back in the car. I will now always be checking.

I've done that- twice - once she wasn't strapped into the seat and once she was strapped in but the car seat was not strapped in! I am now extra, extra careful because those two things happened within days of each other.

Oh hun, it's an easy mistake! Tomos is fine so don't be too hard on yourself x x

Hubby has done this before, don't worry. What's worse tho is that hubby once left Oscar in the car whilst doing a whole food shop!!!!! Thank god the poor baby was asleep and not a screaming wreck!

So glad I'm not the only scatter brain around then. xxx

thats not that bad - took me a good 4-6 months to realise i hadnt been putting the car seat in right and needed to put the seatbelt round it  it was clipped into the base, but still!

I understand it must have shook you up, its prob an wasy misstake to make :hugs: fingers crossed it dont happend again!

when we got out of the hospital Noa was 17 hours and while demba was gonna put my bag in the car, he put the carseat (whit Noa in it) on the cars roof!!!! if we would have been somewhere where noone could see us i would have kicked the shit out of him there and then!

I cant belive your OH left oscar in the car!! Did he actually tell you that? wow thats bad!! Once a girl at work was just gonna pop in for something and left her boy in the car, she locked the keys in and had no spares!! the firebrigade had to come n rescue her terrified n screaming little boy (he was about 8-9 month)

Yea he told me the idiot! He and Eloise who is 12 went to do the food shop and left him in there for about half an hour!!! Neither of them noticed!! I have never let him forget!

 how did they not notice?! i've heard so many stories of people in the olden days going shopping and you used to leave your pram outside the shops and they'd just walk home and forget the baby in the pram!! my aunty did it with my dad! there's 12 years between them so she was allowed to take him quite far!

I've done that too when Sam was little...I'd been out with a friend, had the car seat on top of the buggy and I'd taken him out to feed him and put a blanket over him when I put him back in - he was fast asleep so I didn't want to wake him up by strapping him in because we weren't going home yet. I felt awful when I got back and took his blanket off to get him out!

I did this twice within a few days the other week.

Drove a mile down the road and stopped at the roundabout and was like 'why did Evie's car seat just move?' SHIT!!!!! She was strapped in but with no seatbelt!
Then a few days after I only got a few doors down until I realised! It's so easily done!

I wouldn't worry Alice - my SIL hadn't been strapping our nephew in correctly for a year! She gets taxis everywhere too and just used to plonk him on the seat and think he'd be fine!

sorry to but in, but talking about cars I had to say, when my OH was young and going to nursery he didn't want to go and locked himself in the car, MIL had to get the police and he continued to tell the police to go away and wouldn't get out the car ! Because he didn't want to go to nursery, so just think its going to get loads better when they are older!

Glad everything is ok though, we all do things like this from time to time :hugs: x

 All the fun we have to come

You'd think most kids would be terrified with the police showing up, not tell them to go away

I forgot to plug LO's carseat into the car before  Tbh I think we all have done something similar at some stage.. When I'm on my way out I know in my head it's... "Have I locked the door? Did I turn the cooker off? Is the iron off? Yeah it is I remember... Or do I?!.. Did I unplug the laptop? Is everything in the bag? Nappies, food, wipes, drink, change, toy, blanket, dummy, handbag, phone.. Ok, ok check!.. Do I have my keys?! OMG where are my keys?! Oh.. There they are" Is it just me? We are always thinking about other things.. It's not because we don't care.. Usually because we are thinking about everything else that we need to be doing/having x

Don't punish yourself hun, Tomos is OK :) I've done it too, I glanced over at Cahal in the car and realised that although I'd placed the car seat into the right position and had put the seatbelt in the right place, I hadn't actually 'clicked' the end of the seat belt in (in his old seat I had to put the seatbelt round from the passenger side and then do it up from the drivers side because it was so tight, but in my rushing had just got in the car and got going ) It was only for a minute or so if that, but I felt awful!

We thought the point of the base was that you didn't need to fiddle about with the seatbelt??? Should I be doing it differently? We have a graco base and seat x

the graco base should be secured with the seat belt at all time well mine does and its 3 years old the the car seat clips into the base

my ds unclipped himself out of the carseat whilst on the moterway, ive never panicked so much in my life
we are forever having to tell the kids to sit properly in the car so the belt is across them properly we also have to tell the mil to wear her belt she would go without if she thought we would let her get away with it

Me too!

I have the maxi Cosi car seat and family fix base. Do I need to put the seatbelt round too? If so, what was the point in me paying £100 for the base?

Hmm I have the Graco seat and base, I have just read the instructions and it says WITHOUT seatbelt you just clip car seat on, so don't panic :)
