Hi girls,

Had a couple of appointments today and outcome is looks like it's a bit more waiting... but once i come on things will get rolling which feels good.

Today we were in the clinic for AGES! :coffee: But it was very informative and they're putting me on a 'long protocol using ocp' plan with low dose of buserelin due to PCO. I have some appointments booked in already. :)
First on on 17th July. 40 sleeps to go!! I've already gone ahead of myself and calculated probable days till egg retrieval = 60; probable days till pregnancy test = 74; if all successful possible due date April 2013 ---- dangerous I know but sometimes ya just can't help it ;)

That will fly in! Have to keep positive too well done!!!!

I'm due 31st May, don't you know ;)

Which OCP are they going to use?

Is there any reason why they decided against using Cetrotide instead of Buserelin?

Buserelin completely shuts down the gland in your brain that regulates hormones and as you mentioned it can be hard to get the gland going again after the treatment cycle. If they use a lower dose, aren't they risking it not working? :eh:

Cetrotide specifically stops ovulation occurring with hormones.

That is what i'm having, a OCP plus cetrotide cycle :)

I'm young (so they keep saying) I don't have PCOS and or anything but after my buserelin cycle i had an anovulatory cycle that was 40 days long when i'm normally 28 days, so it was a bit scarey  So now i'm a bit wary of it :oooo:

I've probably scared you too now, but don't worry about it. I'm not questioning their judgement just wondering why out of interest :) Maybe Buserelin will get a better stimulation response out of you. Plus, it doesn't really matter what your natural cycle is like once you start needing IVF ;)

April/May 2013 will be good months! ;)

I have no idea what their rational for giving me buserelin is...? The consultant whipped out a form with everything already written on and only talked about dosage -- to be honest I didn't even consider questioning her about it! Every step of the way ya learn a bit more in this lark don't ya :)
I can totally understand you being wary of it Lou. My cycle is already 40 days ish so I dread to think what I'd be waiting if I had the same response!? Fingers crossed that won't be an issue to deal with.

I'll let you know tomorrow which OCP they're putting me on as I'm having my meds delivered in the morning. It's all a bit full on when they're talking about everything at appointments. And I find myself having to be pretty insistent and focussed getting clarity on things; then I scribble away in a little book looking like i'm taking it all in, walk out and everything instantly falls out of my head!?!

Lou when are you starting your ocp? I reckon I'll prob come on around the 24th June. I'm actually quite looking forward to my delivery of magic potions tomorrow morning -- C'mon!

It will be really interesting to follow your journey and to see what plan they put you on as I also have pcos so could be following something very similar to you when we start treatment xx

Ah, that is what I was a bit worried about tbh, that they were applying a cookie cutter protocol to you - they really should put more thought into it imo.

They did that with me, first cycle buserelin seems to be the norm. Not that it made a difference for me ;)

Ideally they should put you on metformin too because PCOS indicates increased insulin production which increases male hormone production which can interfere with egg production.

It also increases blood clotting so something like aspirin should be taken.

You are at risk of overstimulation too which also can cause clots, again the aspirin will help to conceive and maintain a pregnancy :)

I think I'll be starting my ocp around the 6th of August depending on when the cycle before starts. I'll be stimulating from about 27th xx

you are a fountain of knowledge!
I think I need to take you with me to any future appointments I have

I'll ask them about the metmorfin when I go for my first scan. I'm aware of the risk of OHSS and the aspirin sounds like a good idea - thanks.

6th Aug, just under 8 weeks :) IVF here we come! xx

I think you need to be taking the metformin in advance if you're going to bother to give it time to do it's stuff. It's horrible stuff though...

Maybe a low GI diet would do exactly the same thing, which you should be on anyway with PCOS ;)

I know, i can't wait for it to come around now! xx
