My OH did those fertility tests I got off ebay and they were both negative. So he went to the doctors and they referred him to the hospital for a semen analysis last monday. He got the results back today. He has a low sperm count and has to see a urologist on March 18th.

I can't believe it! Am I right in thinking there's not much that can be done other than IVF or sperm donor?
 Sorry to hear your sad news. Just a couple of questions:-

Did you get the sperm sample to the Dr's within 2 hrs?

Did you keep the sperm at body temp?

Did you refrain from BD'ing for a few days before doing the sample?
   so sorry cori

I don't have any experience in that field so I can't offer you any words of wisdom or comfort, just lots of    No doubt others may know more

At least he's seeing the docs, & if there is anything that can been done to help, you can get it.

Roll on March so you find out

Awww hun!

I can not really say that I know how you feel because I don't not really, but It only takes 1 sperm (and your temps look fab btw :) ) and I know a couple of people who have low sperm counts but are dads to healthy children :)

I think sperm counts can be helped maybe with some tablets etc but I think diet can also help improve the count.

I honestly dont know. Would it be worth having a google and see what they suggest.
It's SO not over, hon. You can still conceive, you'll just have to make sure that you don't do it every day - every other day instead - and with an improvement in diet and the addition of some folic acid in the diet (or supplements), his sperm can be improved quite a bit! I don't think you should give up yet, and he'll probably really need your support right now. No guy likes to be given that news!
Thanks girls

SpaceAngel, he produced the sample at the hospital and yeah, we did refrain.

melissa, do you think it's worth asking him to start taking multivitamins now? I was going to get him those Wellman ones.
Listen babe. Its NOT over!!! I read your post and googled it. There are tablets out there to help improve the count. Theres diets that can be followed to help improve things. Bed every day instead of every other, theres loads to read babe. Its not all doom and gloom. One site I just looked at also said that the lower the sperm count the better quality they are because they have to be and in quite a few cases men with a lower count can fall easier than a man with a very high count as the lower count is better quality, so lets hope your DH is that man!
Try to keep positive. Write down as many questions as you can for the specialist. But best of all, keep positive not only for yourself but your hubby babe because he must be feeling like hell love him. Cori  If you want to chat then pm me ok xxxxxxx
Could be, love, tho he might want to have a nutritonal work-up done so that he's not only putting things into his body that he should be but also avoiding things that he shouldln't be eating. A lot of multivits that you get at the store have a lot of crap in them that you don't really need, and it's not necessarily high-quality nutrients, but they're probably worth a go for starters anyway.
Mel, your great, your advise is always top notch. I give my DH folic acid and a few other suppliments I take, it cant hurt can it. Give anything a go Cori xx
Aww, thanks hon. I do the same thing - I give him the occasional multi-vit that I'm taking as well as korean ginseng for him. Agnus castus can help with male sperm count as well, Cori, so maybe give that a try!
All the other posts have been spot on!! There is always hope and like the other girls said, it only takes 1 sperm!! What was the mobility like?
Thanks Donna and Melissa

That's given me a bit of hope.
Sorry to hear your negative news Cori, but you mustn't give up. It is not over, it's just beginning really as now you have some answers and can work towards getting the result (BFP!!!  ) that you want. I know a couple who were ttc for 2 years as hubby had low a sperm count, but they now have 3 beautiful children and that's without any fertility treatment - it can and it does happen. Best of luck hun, keep us posted with how you get on.
so sorry to hear ur news cori- thought something mustve been up cos u havn't been on here lately. we've missed u  i agree with all the others- he doesn't have no sperm and it only takes 1 so u just got to keep trying- also ur chart looks fab this month but i won't dwell on that as i don't want to jinx it!! folic acid is good for the sperm. wait and see what the experts say at his appointment but chin up- as hard as that is- it can and WILL happen it just may take a little longer.
this happened to me 2 weeks ago. i got so much support off the girls here i talked OH into doing another test...it came back NORMAL!!!!! all is not lost trust me. just try another test from your drs. do it just before u get the hosp (not in the car or on the bus tho! lol), keep it in your pocket so its warm and stay off the sex for 5 days (they say 3 days but 5 is better)
Cori it is NOT over by a long shot.

There are things you can do. Please Please dont give up hun

One of my best friends partners has low sperm count, they thought they would have to give up and they infact did but just didn't use contraception, however after 6 months they concieved. They only bd'd every few days, sometimes only once a week! - She just had her 12 week scan and baby bean is beautiful!

So there is hope, don't give up!!
Sorry about this Cori. I don't know much about sperm count but a friend of mine had the same issue, her husband's count was really really low (less than 2 millions), they kept doing the tests and everytime they came back worse than before. They were getting prepared to have their first IVF but conceived a week before the appointment, with just 1 intercourse! :D
Sadly she lost it 3 weeks later but she feels much better now than she did before and they're both confident they can conceive naturally but that it might take them some time.
Good luck hun, you should never lose hope in life, anything is possible
