Afternoon ladies

On Wednesday afternoon I was involved in a car accident, I was driving home from work and all the traffic was slowing down when suddenly somebody crashed into me from behind and pushed me into the car in front. I knew I was ok but I was more worried about baby. Silly girl who had hit me didn't even get out of her car I had to go to her!

Anyway I went to hospital and they checked baby and said everything seemed ok. They took some blood as I am rhesus negative and said they would call if any problems. The hospital called on Friday to say they had detected fetal maternal haemorrhage and I had to go in for another anti-d injection as it has to bw given within 72 hours which I did.

What I am worrying myself about is what if the fetal blood had been in my system from something that had happened before and not the accident then the anti-d would be too late. If it's not that then what has bled to cause the baby's blood to be mixed with mine - I am worried the baby is hurt. Is this causing any problems now for my baby? Sorry for all the questions, I am seeing my midwife Wednesday so will ask her then but I love my baby so much and I am devastated this has happened. I am 33 weeks pregnant, almost 34 weeks now.

One other thing baby's heartbeat is normally 145bpm but when I was being monitored both on Wednesday and Friday after the anti-d baby's heartbeat averaged 133bpm and somtimes went down to 120 for second - is this normal?

Again, I am sorry this is long.

Flo

Im sorry I really have no advice I dont know anything about bloods and stuff but I just wanted to give you some hugs   Glad you are safe and well xx

I would have thought they would have you got you into hospital immediately if they thought it was a major problem.

So sorry to hear about the accident - I have no advice I'm afraid but hope you are OK.

Hope you are feeling better, I'm sure the doctors would be monitoring you further if they were worried.

As far as the heartbeat goes, your LO's heart rate will go down the bigger it gets.

as the others have said, if your really worried and cant wait until wednesday call the labour ward and get someone to give you a call to discuss these matters as Im sure they will be able to explain and reassure you.

I agree if you are really worried then ring the labour ward hun. As regard to the heartbeat- I have a trace twice a week and the babys haertrate is always different. The heartrate als goes down if the baby moves away from the sensor. They usually take the base rate. If they were worried theyd get you in to monitor you more,

  sorry to hear of your accident. I was monitored regularly at the end of my pregnancy due to obstetric cholestasis so I was aware that my LOs heartbeat was going down towards the end and that was considered fine. It was up to 160 through most of the pregnancy and by the end was down to an average of about 120. It would be quite variable over the time monitored too. I was quite worried when I watched it on the monitor the first time but the mw said that was normal.

Hi

Hope you are feeling better.

I too worry about the rh neg thing. Did you get your anti d injection and bloods taken at 28 weeks. If so the bloods would have detected if there was anything wrong. Maybe you can call your midwife as others have said to put your mind at ease.

Stupid twats some ppl are so careless on the roads!!

Im so sorry you had to go through that hon, please don't worry its probably a blood vessel and nothing serious, it would take ALOT to knock that bubba for 6.

Glad you are ok keep us posted...

Aww hun  I know EXACTLY how you feel cause I had near enough the totally same situation last sunday, I had blood taken and they said it showed I needed anti d again, from what I understand the blood test was just detecting the level of anti d in the blood from the 28 week injection to cover you incase there was any blood mixing it doesn't prove that blood has mixed. The reasons they worry about blood mixing isnt blood from baby as in through its skin but from the placenta I should imagine it was only given as precaution and if there had been any problem with placenta or baby they wouldn't be just giving you another anti d and thats it! My baby was born totally healthy and gorgeous on Friday hope this reasures you, but if your worrying yourself ring midwife askt them to explain everything to you thats what they're there for!!
