O can sit up unaided????? I have never heard that before! I wanna try and start weaning when he is 5 months as going back to work when he is 7 months and don't want someone else weaning him

I have heard that before, I'm sure he'll let you know when he's ready tho as bottles alone won't cut it x

That's the guideline especially if you want to do BLW which is why they say 6months as that's when most can sit unaided. Some babies will be ready sooner than others and some will be ready later. If you want to wean earlier and LO is ready you can, you know your own baby x

I have heard that as well but I totally understand you wanting to start at 5 months, its such a personal thing at the start, I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to do it either.

Yeah thats what my HV said too, its to do with the food going down properly.

Could you not start at 6 months? That way you can do the first few weeks before you go back to work.

xxxxxxx

I don't understand why everyone seems to want to wean so early? Obviously I understand you wanting to do it before going back to work, but I mean in general.

Would a month not be enough for you to sink your teeth in? What are your working hours like? Can you not do his breakfast and dinner and he just has his lunch at nursery?

Infact have you found one yet?

I have to agree I think if O lasts until 6
months then you'll have enough time to get into it and like PP said they'll probably only be giving him his lunch so you'll still get all the breakfasts and tea times :) xxxx

Pinky My work r currently screwing me and not beig flexible at all so I would miss breakfast lunch and dinner :(

Hun dont wean him just because you cant give him food, one month is enough even if you wean at 6 mnth. Look at him and see when he is ready. They need to be able to sit up and not slump so the food can go down properly also so they just dont push it out of their mouths. I weaned at 5 and a half months because he wasd grabbing my food and he could sit. Some babies are not ready at 6 months as well. Just go with the flow and look for the signs

That's what I hope to do! Obv if he isn't ready I won't do it but I will just be sad if I miss out on it!

yes that is true, the oromotor skills for eating solids, especially non-purees are strongly linked to core stability of being able to sit unaided. At work children with muscle/neurological problems often get stuck at the purree stage for this reason and need specialsit seating to be able to eat solids. Definitely do not offer lumpy textures until your LO is sitting and stable.

My hv told me to start weaning at 6 months. Gonna go to the weaning class either next week or week after. Feel like he's ready but decided I'm gonna stick to baby rice but been keeing an eye on him. There's so many different things said concerning weaning It's so confusing. A different hv told me to look for signs which I did and lo seems to be doing that's Why I've decided on weaning Now. I say o will tell you when he's ready and you being his mum knows best. Xx

Tbh O can sit unaided for almost a min now without falling lol

However his bottles r satisfying him at the moment he is on 9oz 4 times a day  he has it all but isn't looking for more

Really - what does he weigh? Cam only gets 7oz :oooo: but 5 times per day, maybe cos it's wysoy :eh:

Jack didn't sit unaided until he was 7.5mths old ... he'd have starved as he was only taking 3-4oz of milk every 2-3 hours. O will let you know when he's ready hun :) x

My HV visited today and she asked me if I felt confident with the weaning stage (Joe is only 8 weeks!!) I said yes, Ben was over 5 months but not quite 6 months when I started weaning him, she said 'well they can start any time after 17 weeks, although a lot of mums start at 14 weeks!!)
