Is there a way to know when the 2nd stage (pushing) is about to start before it actually starts?
I mean when you're still at home without a mid-wife to examine how dilated you are etc..

Reason I'm asking is because I live literally a 5 minutes drive to the hospital. This time round (it's my second) I'm planning to labour at home for as long as possible, but I don't want to risk having baby pop out at home.

I would check with the mw. They say the second time is usually quicker than the first. I have a thirty minutes drive to the Hosp, so have been wondering the same thing.

I don't know about everyone but when I start saying I can't do it then its nearly time to push. (Transition I think they call it) however this stage only lasted a few min with my second.

If I remember correctly it was the point I was most vocal (swearing at my husband etc), just before I got the urge to bear down. I remember being sooooo fed up with it all at that point and thinking thats it i cant do it anymore. But it was really quick so I would go by your contraction timings :) xx
