ok so when my little one was born he could only latch a few mins a time and eventually gave up the midwives made out it was my fault and sent me home without him feeding for 8 hours! as soon as i was home i put him on formula as i just wanted him to eat asap and then the midwife told me to not touch my boobs and let them dry up so i did. the next week when my hv visited she sad he was tongue tied and the mw should have picked up on it and orted it out then and there. well at the begining he struggled with the bottle teats too but eventually got the hang of it, he is now currently 12 weeks old, i REALLLY want to breast feed him its really been getting me down since as ive always dreamt of breastfeeding as i strongly believe in it, im just wondering ghow to get it back?

im currently trying to pump every hour for 10 mins on each breast and have purchased feenugreek (although they are MASSIVE so dont know how i will swallow them and cant mkae them into tea or whatever cause i will throw up! hha will the docttor prescribe anything?

going out of my mind i want to breast feed SO BAD!
thanks in advance, really looking for some advice! sorry for typos i am currently pumping!!

I don't know how to go this, maybe doesn't to your HV about things that could help. R u getting any out?

My boy can't latch due to my nipples being so flat. I pump 15-20 on each breast every 3hrswhich us the advice about express feeding. He didnt feed properly for first 24hrs and nobody picked if up! I was so annoyed as hexwAs latching but not getting anything out.

Im not sure if this will work buttry offering him the breast every hour .. The stimulation might help kick start it again (it might take a week or more though!)
If he's struggling to latch on I suggest nipple shields (you too jojo!!) I have flat nipples and my son is tongue tied.. Nipple shields were the best thing! He latches on and feeds great now and we have even managed to go without the shields occasionally now as they help draw your nipples out.
For bottle fed babies they're great to get them on the breast too as they are like bottle teats so they should latch on pretty quick.

I personally recommend the medela shields, they're comfortable and work wonders (boots sell them for about £7)

Good luck and hope you can get breastfeeding! Be patient! It's worth it!

I for a madella shield for free at the hospital and I do try it... Feeding mw said to pop it Into hot water for a few minutes until soft then pop it on the nipple with the little gap where the chin goes- it'll stick to breast better... Unfortunately he's still not interested- I definately don't think he's a breast man lol I'd love to get him on the breast if I could / even if just for night time feeds as bottle feeds work nicely for us during the day

Firstly are you getting any milk expressing? If so you need to strip him down to his nappy and start with lots of skin to skin. Your body will release 2 hormones which will help your breast milk come in, the more you and baby skin to skin to more your hormones will help with by :) I also recommend you go to YouTube and watch how a baby latches with the first breastfeed and you can try this, xx

Out of interest how come you have decided not to get his tongue tie snipped? My LOs was picked up at his first check in hospital and was sorted a few days later - his feeding is much better and least I know he won't have problems with eating/lisps later in life and I had no need for shields etc

His tongue tie wasn't major but it was amazing the difference it made afterwards :)
