Hello everyone I am not quite due yet but was wondering providing everything is okay with your pregnancy how overdue will hospitals let you go?
Thanks

They're going to induce on my due date if I haven't popped before due to complications. However, usually they would go to 14 days after the due date if everything was fine (that's in York).

normally no more than 14 days. Some will let you go longer if you and baby are monitored and baby is well.
Some places like to induce you at term plus 10days - but i think you're within your rights to wait until 2 weeks over.

Ditto what BabyBee said. No one can make you have an induction if you go overdue. Even past the 14 days. They can advise you, and you can make an informed choice. You can choose to have an induction or you can choose to go over and have yourself and baby monitored and hopefully go into labour naturally in your own time.

Of course, if past 14 days OD and you are monitored and there is a cause for concern then you probably should be induced. Your doctors can advise on this if and when. FWIW most women go into labour before 42 weeks :)

in my area (lanarkshire, scotland) they induce at term+12 for first time mums. the miwives are also very willing to do sweeps at your request, a few days after your due date.

Whilst i really want my homebirth i think if i got to 14 days over i might be so desperate for my LO that i'd agree to an induction!

I think all places are different in what is 'normal' when it comes to the amount of time they allow but as Sherlock said you don't have to agree with what they suggest and they can't force you into it!

they'll let me go 12 days over..hopefully that won't happen tho!

Again, they can and will advise you, you don't *have* to have an induction. You can opt to be monitored regularly and wait for labour to occur naturally if you wish :)

But also what I said above about if baby or yourself after 42 weeks do have a problem then induction is probably the better course of action in that instance.

I do find it odd so many women thikg they *have* to be induced beyond a certain point regardless. There is no law saying so

I asked my midwife this at my last appointment and she they usually induce after said 10 days. I guess it really depnds on where you go.
