Fecking government, you earned that bloody money, what right do they have to take half of it!! Dont get me wrong I do agree with some tax but the amount we get taxed is ridiculous to me, more so if your on higher earnings so you get 50% tax, your usually on so much casue your working so bloody heard like 18 hour days etc...........makes me think, spend it while you can, dont save as it will only get re taxed when you die, so whats the point!! anyway rant over lol

OK, so if we don't pay tax who pays for schools and the NHS?? Surely it's better to tax the rich at a higher rate?

End of socialist rant.

Oooo don't get me started on tax, i think it's really unfair the current system. My father worked for local goverment and paid so much into a pension fund from his wage which was already taxed now he's retired and drawing from that pension he get taxed on it again. :shakehead:
Also there are quite a few celebs who work the tax system too, staying so many days in different countries so they don't have to pay any tax, that makes me really  .
Right rant over.

I'm a SAHM so earn £0.

I dont have a problem paying tax hun. Its the AMOUNT of tax i have an issue with. You get told to go to uni to get a good job so you can earn more money. So i do that and come out with huge debt cos i didnt get a grant (first year you didnt get one automatically) and got no help from folks as they are very poor, so i took a student loan. Then when i do earn the bigger income cos i got a good degree etc, the government tax me 40%, 11.2% national insurance, and 10% student loan....so where exactly is the incentive to do well??!

Like I say, i have no problem paying tax especially if it goes to decent deserving people. However the AMOUNT I get taxed I have issue with and also when I see my next door neighbour have 4 kids by 4 different men by the age of 20, doesnt work and gets a house in an area i could never have afforded at 26 never mind 20 paid for by the government (i.e. ME!) then I do have an issue.

Rant over!!
:D

OO and Im only "rich" cos i got off my backside and worked my arse off. I came from a broken home and mum and i literally had NOTHING when i was growing up. SHe got all my clothes from charity shops and we really struggled to even eat sometimes. I just think we live in a culture where its easier to sit on your backside and get others to pay for you than it is to actually get up and do sommat and thats mainly because the government dont reward success by taxing people like me who want to drag themselves out the gutter and give that money to people who really dont deserve it.

oooh some interesting views. I think it's quite interesting that no matter what we earn none of us have much spare! I guess we really do spend what we have!

I am going to do my degree - it may take me 5 years buy heyho! Then do my PGCE and become a teacher so i hope one day to be on a better amount.

Sometimes though people can work really hard and earn very little. My mum works full time as a teaching assistant and she works really hard and does a lot but the pay really isn't great!

Yeah i totally agree! I know im very lucky to have found a profession that Im good at and pays really well. And as i say i have no issue with tax for helping those who need it and deserve it. I just reckon that the culture in the UK is geared too heavily in one direction and that this leads to lots of unscrupulous people claiming benefits who dont really qualify for them or could be working. Maybe those who earn a lot through their own merit need not be taxed so much if a better system was in place so that those who warrant it still get help, whilst those who dont get off their backsides and work.

Yeh i think the system should be fairer - but i have no idea how!

I guess it's hard determining who 'deserves' what help and why,

Yeah i agree its hard. I guess thats one of the reasons why taxes keep going up for absolutely everything - its easier to tax people more than it is to come up with a solution to the root cause of it all. I personally believe thats one of the reasons we have this credit crunch problem. They have had to increase taxation due to global markets but it was already at such a high level that this latest increase has really pushed people over their limits. If you look at the statistics, its actually the middle classes that have been hit hardest in terms of the fact that they are the ones losing their homes through defaulting on their mortgages etc in the greatest numbers because they are the people who are taxed to the hilt and get no help at all from the government.

No he works for an IT software company in London. I'm guessing thats where your OH works.

At the moment I get paid just short of £26,000 and OH about the same. I go up a salary point each year and by the time I reach the top (4 years and counting) I'll be on £34,000. We live pretty comfortably but can be a bit silly with money sometimes so have had to tighten the purse strings on SMP.

what do some fo your higher earnings do , ive lsot my job and need a new career lol

i DID earn 18k as a merchandiser , dh earns 24k soon it will be just dh so about 1400 a month , and we cant live on that our outgoings are more :wall: i know smp is rubbish but it was keeping us afloat lol these are rubbish wages for london outgoings i tell ya !

Hun thats why I said

Dont get me wrong I do agree with some tax but the amount we get taxed is ridiculous to me,

I agree with tax for schools, NHS etc [not roads as they get enough bloody revnue for that out of speed traps] but I do not agree with the more you earn the more you pay, it should be worked out on hours worked for that pay also...so for example John Smith works 5 hours a week but gets £50 an hour so gets 12k a year, so he is on the lower take bracket....then Richard Black works 80 hours a weeks so gets £40/£50k PA why is it fair he gets taked more, he is working 300 times as hard for that money.

Its not taxing the rich at a higher rate its taking the higher earners at a higher rate, their is a difference.

what about millionaires who dont work, I know the money has been taxed somewhere down the line but if your sat in your millionaires house not working cause you have inherrited all this money and dont need to, where are you paying your take from everymonth, your not, so theirfor the ultra rich are not actually being taxed!

50% of your earnings is to much. 25% for PAYE & NI is a fair cop, no more should be taken IMHO

I was a loan advisor and OH is an acting Sargeant. he does lots of overtime tho, for instance he is on OT
tonight 4pm-2am
tomorrow 4pm-2am
Sunday 4pm- midnight
Then normal working hours of 12.30 til 10pm mon, Tue & Wed. So as you can see i dont see much of him

I was/am a (now self employed) web and graphic designer. I used to earn £30-£40k plus but I didn't add that as I haven't worked for 20 months  Between us we used to earn £80k+ Thoses were the days!
My OH is a computer programmer. I am really proud of him, he is VERY good at his job, a complete geek! He has worked for and designed programs for a lot of high profile international companies. He used to contract (before his own company) and earn anything from £300+ a day. But when he lost his business and we had Dan he took a permanent job at 50k+ bonus, where he now writes spread betting software for the stock market. It means less hours, closer to home and not having to travel into the city everyday.

I have just went back to work part time and I am guessing that between us we earn about £1550 after Tax, NI and Pensions. xxx
