Am in the midst of packing my hospital bag (albeit early but i am an organised freak lol) was just wondering what's the norm for how long you stay in hospital for? Don't want to take loads of stuff if I don't need it!

With aoibheann i was in for a week , With lily I was let home the next morning . The standard stay in ireland for a first baby is 48hrs after birth if there are no complications and 5 days if a c-section . The secon is 24hrs after or five days for a c-section .

I was out of hospital the next morning with Adam, hoping im not going to be in long this time too x x

3 days with my 1st but that's cos I had to have a serous op straight after giving birth.
I was only in hospital 5 hours after my 2nd, just wanted to get home!

I gave birth at 3.58pm and they were going to discharge us at 8pm But they discovered LO had a heart murmur so we were let out the next afternoon x

I was 3 days - they like to chuck you out asap but personally I prefer 2 nights if I can wangle it

i was in for a day and a half, but two nights (Flynn was born on the Friday evening, went home on the Sunday morning!) but was only because LO wasn't feeding properly, other wise they would have let us out on the sat afternoon!

I gave birth at 3.44am and was let out at about 4pm the following day. I was discharged in the morning but had to wait for the doctor to discharge Jake. I could have gone home straight from the delivery room but chose to spend a night in hospital as it was my first. If I have another one, I'll go home straight from the delivery room if all is ok.

I had sam on the monday afternoon and was discharged saturday evening! We were due home on the wednesday but the nursery nurse said sam looked jaundiced so he was tested and sure enough he was and he was on the line that required treatment! He was on the billibed for two days and i begged to be let home but didnt get out till saturday evening. Ill be honest i aboloutly hated it, as a first time mum, i felt totally abandoned on a ward full of people who were nothing like me and a baby i had no idea what to do with. All i wanted was to be at home with hubbys support xxx

I gave birth at 6.45am and we were walking out the door at 10.45am the same morning!

I went in on the Wednesday at 8am (14 days late ready to be induced) and left on Saturday about 2pm.

I felt I wanted to stay longer though as I was home alone almost all the time so felt I needed more support.

God lucky you Kelly!! I had Alfie at 10.10 on the friday and was let out Monday morning but that was only becasue he had absorbed too many red blood cells so was bright red and it took them a while to figure out why!!! lol x

I was in for 2 nights. Would have only been 1 but I had to have a blood transfusion xx

I was in for 3 days/nights with my 1st - neither she or I had any problems, apart from a traumatic birth.

Really hoping its short this time.

:)

I was in for 9 days. But as Esmé was born a month early they wouldn't have let us leave till she was at least 36 weeks (which would've been 4 days in hospital). When they did their heel prick test at end of week, they were concerned that she was jaundice. (It was a bit frustrating as a few days previous we mentioned she looked a bit jaundice but it just got shrugged off saying she looked a bit yellow due to the light in the room). Then she had problems feeding.

Back when I was getting my bag ready I took enough clothes to last a week for the baby and glad I did, because of how many times in the day you could change your LO.
When I was packing the bag I did laugh at myself saying I wouldn't need that much but I did even in the first few days due to how many times she was being sick or a few wee accidents

I was in 42 hrs with AJ. He was born at 00:15 Wed and I went home 18.00 Thurs. I requested to be discharged at 06.00 Thurs morning but had to wait for blood results after blood loss after a traumatic labour and birth and my request wasn't passed on until the next shift of MW :trouble:

I went in on Sunday 19th June, Jack was born at 9.15pm on the Monday. We then stayed an extra 2 nights because Jack's blood sugar levels were low so 3 days in total x

here in glasgow u normally in for 2 days normal labour with ur first second up 2 24hrs can be less am having section next week and been told earliest be thursday or friday latest so thats only 3 days x

Ella wasn't allowed home until day 11 - she was in scbu as she was prem at 35+5 then she got a listeria infection and had to have antibiotics for seven days and we had to establish feeding before she was allowed home. Personally I would plan for three days and get someone to bring more stuff in if you are there longer xx
