How do they do it?

I am amazed as to how the people find out the sex of the baby when you have a scan.
How do they do it?
When i was expecting my daughter 16 yrs ago i tried my hardest to figure out what sex she was and thought she was a boy cause i thought i saw her anatomy but it turned out to be her hand lol.

How can they see the sex but we cant?

Experience and about 3 years of training! Thats the only thig i can think of, some hospitals don't tell you in the fear of getting it wrong and being sued, i know the hospital they are referring me to doesn't tell you but the hospital that is closest to me does. Its the good old postcode lottery again!

my hospitalk doesnt tell you but one about 20 miles away does but il be going private anyways so il get told
i think its if they see 3 lines its a girl and if only 2 and a lump its a boy

my mums a midwife and she said that apparently they dont find out the sex by looking at there bits but they find out another way. i dunno how tho. ill ask her when she gets back lol

we didnt want to know but ds1 was sitting on his feet in 20 week scan so couldnt see them went back for repeat which concentrated on leg area and especially hips as dh is a hip surgeon and knew the sonographer - we couldnt help seeing - being used to seeing scans made it all to easy to spot. with dd we deliberately didnt look adn were convinced she was a boy until born - ds 2 had is legs spread displaying all very proudly and we couldnt help noticing!!
