I know it's a bit erly yet at almost 32 weeks....

But what the heck are we supposed to put in the hospital bags? I keep seeing lists on line and in mags that say 'make up, hair dryer, ipod & lap top' and stuff like that.

I can't see me being that bothered if I have no make up and frizzy hair in hospital, I don't have an ipod, and I don't think I'll have much need for my laptop!

Can someone give me a sensible list?

Thanks, that's really helpful!

How many of things like nappies n baby clothes are a good idea? I've been given a pack of 4 baby grows, 2 pairs of scratch mits and same of socks, a hat and snow suit (prob wont need, but the weather is MENTAL at the moment).

What about things like dummies, nipple guards... someone mentioned baby shampoo and baby bath / body lotion and stuff.

Sorry, just starting to see what a total 'noob' I am at mothering!

I was told 10 nappies a day! 4 babygrows, 4 vests, 2 pairs scratch mits, 1 hat, 2 cardigans and a blanket.

Don't think you will need any toiletries for baby as they don't like to bath them to begin with as they get too cold (plus their skin is too sensitive for most stuff to begin with)

hmm... please bear with me, English is not my first language. But if a baby is wearing a babygro (=bodysuit) why would he need a vest? or is a babygro something else???

There's a list in the back of my pregnancy notes that tell you how many of each thing you need.
They usually have baby clothes at the hospital you can use if you run out, or you can get people to bring extra stuff in for you if you stay longer than planned.

I'm taking this for Logan...

1 pack of nappies
1 pack of wipes
1 pack of nappy sacks
Sudocream
Cotton wool
2 x vests
2 x sleepsuits
cardi
scratchmitts
hat
coat
carseat

I planning on coming home from the maternty unit 3-6 hours after delivery so this stuff is just in case I get transferred to hospital and have to stay in.

When I bathed James in hospital, they provided the toiletries..just a squirt of johnssons baby bath, they didn't use shampoo.

I always dressed James in a vest and babygro/sleepsuit. I suppose it depends how warm the temperature is.

I definately won't be taking any makeup in hospital with me, don't recall any of the mums wearing it when I had James. Who cares what they look like when they're sleep deprived

For me I've got on my list....

1 pack maternity pads
1 pack disposable knickers
1 pack breast pads
Nipple cream
Hair brush and bands
Old nightdress for labour
toothbrush and paste
showergel
shampoo
facewipes
deoderant
face cloth for labour
snacks and drinks
change for pay phone and important phone numbers
camera
dressing gown
slippers
pyjamas
towel
book
clothes for going home
pregnancy notes
tens machine

A babygro is a sleepsuit - with legs, arms and feet all covered.
A vest is just a bodysuit - short sleeves or no sleeves and no legs.

Babies need both so that they don't get cold.

Hope that helps

   I totally forgot about packing a bag for James! He'll be going to his grandparents house when labour starts

hehehe my mum will have keys to my house to get any thing she needs, but i hate the idea of some one routing through things in my house so im being well prepared :rotfl:

I know it's a long way off for me yet but I plan to pack an extra bag for me and an extra bag for baby with a few spares of the thing's I think I might run out of if I end up staying in longer than expected. I'll leave them with my mum to bring if I need them.
