I have not had a cold or flu or even the sniffles in more than 15yrs, I'm currently 14wks pregnant today and I have major flu. My chest feels like someone is hacking away at it, coughing hurts so bad and my head feels like a jackhammer going off in there. My Dr has given me antibiotics for a chest and ear infection but says I can take ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for my flu, but my pharmacist says different, Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to help get rid or at least calm down my symptoms. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think all you can take is paracetamol - I'm just getting over a hideous cold. The pharmacies here won't give advice because I'm pregnant, I have to go through my GP or midwife.

I'm taking paracetamol but doesn't seem to be doing anything, my pharmacist is very helpful but thought it would be better to speak to my Dr as well. I don't have a midwife yet, my first appointment with her is at the end of the month.

Where are you based? Usually the midwife sees you 8-10 weeks and again at 16 weeks.

Birmingham, I'll see her for the 1st time when I'm 16 weeks. I saw a fast track midwife who registered me to have my 12 week scan at the hospital, but I don't have a phone number or anything.

I'm 16 weeks and in the exact same position. Paracetamol is all you can take sadly. I'm desperate for some nasal spray but the only one you can use is saline spray! Rubbish! This pregnancy cold is taking forever to go away :(

Reading online vicks nasal inhaler and rub seem to be safe for pregnant women.
