Right girls. Tiny bit of history. I have a 20 month old which was express/ formula fed from 2 weeks due to severe weight loss (20%) despite having a seemingly perfect latch and decent feeding times - the docs and midwives put it down to lack of supply.

Anyway I am now really wanting to breast feed this Lo (2 days old) for a bit longer this time, or give it a good go anyway! But I have issues.

This one gives me loads of feeding cues. But when I try and pop her on she opens her mouth wide, takes a lovely amount of nipple, sucks like made for say a minute, then stops and pulls off. It then turns into a bit of a battle where it feels like I am forcing her to feed, which I hate.

Since she was born on Thursday I have had some really good feeds, for 30 minutes etc, good constant sucking but the last of these was 730 this morning. Because I am paranoid about weight she has had some hand expressed top us via a syringe.

Any tips on getting her to suck? I try blowing on her face, tickeling her toes, stripingherdown and generally pissing her off but it's not working! Oh and the midwife just said its early days, but as my milk is just about in I can hear my old friend medela calling!

Thanks girls xx

How often does she feed hun? Are you getting wet nappies?
I.would just offer often in the early days.
Do you hear her swallow? It should be 2-3 sucks and then swallow.
I had bad weight regain etc with my son so dreading that bit as well. Big hug

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

Just offer regularly. My LO gave good feeding cues all the time - turns out she basically used the same signals for sleep at the start. I used to give her a dummy, turns out if she was tired she just wanted a comfort suck without milk, if she was hungry she wanted boob.

Is there any bf support groups nearby that you could go to. Xxx

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

They say to give their cheek a rub wen they are latched on to encourage sucking. Does your baby look in discomfort? My little girl sometimes gets wind while feeding, she rives about & crys so I wind her then latch her back on, I may have to wind her a couple of times during one feed but it helps.

Xx
