Help needed - re. Men's suits

Might be a silly question butI have to organise a suit for Brian coming home for his nana's funeral.

I know the trouser size and shirt size..... but how are the jackets sized?
Do they go by the shirt size or is it going to be something completely different?

its different, and the hardest part to get right depending on built... anyway, they go by chest measurement (in inches) and then arm length (short, regular, long)

Thats not good tho as I have noooooo idea!! He has some old suits in the loft that I know dont fit him, but might just take the size off them and get a size or two bigger.
